Persuasive Speech On Honor Company

Sir,
On September 2nd, Captain Samuels, you, and Battalion Staff had a meeting regarding Honor Company points. Many things were discussed, including rules regarding the five point loss for neglecting to salute, cell phones for the honor company on Friday, unless we have Saturday classes (we had a follow up conversation about this just a few weeks ago, when discussing the possibility of phone issue on Fridays) the philosophy behind the penalties for in school suspension, out of school suspension, and expulsion, founders day, no homework study hall, character reports, and their respective formulas. Nevertheless the plan was approved, and includes in the plan was the following:

"Honor Company:
Study Hall in PT"

Former Governor of Rhode Island, and United States Senator Lincoln Chafee once said, "Trust is built with consistency." The idea of consistency is an idea that is highly regarded among the Officer Corps at Hargrave. So much so, in fact, that we included it in our Mission Statement for the 2015-2016 school year. It is because we agree, that trust is indeed built with consistency, that we hold this value in such high esteem. We believe that maintaining consistency makes us credible and trustworthy as leaders, and it shows our subordinates that we are dependable and competent as their leaders. For this reason, we believe keeping the privilege of study hall in PT gear for the honor company is the right corse of action, because it is consistent with the current …show more content…
As I previously mentioned, cadets overwhelmingly enjoy PT gear. Any positive excitement and energy from the corps boosts morale, and I'm willing to take it. Providing wearing Hargrave issues PT gear as an incentive is not unheard of, in fact, the academic department does it already! In order to encourage cadets to work more diligently, and study harder, PT gear for study hall is given as an incentive for Deans list checkout, President's list checkout, and President's accommodation list checkout. For this reason, it is reasonable to use it as an incentive for Honor Company as well. If the academic department considers it a reasonable incentive, I believe it is reasonable for Honor Company as well.

The Dean says it's up to us. I have had several meeting with Dean Sullivan regarding the uniform for study hall, and in those meeting, the Dean has expressed that the we in the military department (or, presumably, those too with military duties) may determine the uniform for study

My School district I’ve been in since halfway through kindergarten has one high school, two junior highs, a couple of middle schools and a variety of elementary schools; the fire trucks for the town have the high school mascot on the side. Small town education is different in the way that honor classes have a set of students that take them, and there is rarely a variation from this set of students in those classes. I saw that many students who did not start honors classes in junior high do not think that they can take these advanced classes, they have become viewed as “elite”. My sophomore year history teacher that year agreed with me that the view needed to be changed, so she sponsored a club we headed named “AP Ambassadors”. “AP Ambassadors”…

There is never a day when I don't look at myself in amazement. That is because I am still surprised that I did not quit the Phi Theta Kappa officer team. Even though I keep myself from having emotional breakdowns on campus, there were days I questioned why I am still an officer. If anybody told me that I would be a chapter officer of an internationally proclaimed honor society, I would smile while laughing hysterically in my head. I barely could talk in front of a crowd, let alone lead an entire chapter.…

Though I have not always been consciously aware of the four pillars of National Honor Society, the ideas behind them are what have undoubtedly shaped who I am today as well as who I want to be in the future. The first pillar, scholarship, is important because a commitment to learning is what has made me interested in engineering and innovation. Additionally, scholarship has driven me to seek a meaningful post-secondary education where I can advance my learning to help better society. Service, the second pillar, has been important to my development because it has taught me that giving is more fulfilling than receiving. Moreover, this pillar has motivated me to construct a goal of serving in the US Air Force.…

The four pillars of the National Honor Society (NHS) scholarship, service, leadership, and character and each of these pillars of NHS have shaped who I have become as not only a high school student, but as a person. Personally, school doesn’t come easy for me and I have never been able to breeze through school based solely on my intelligence. However, through my scholarship, which is a commitment and willingness to learn and study, I have been able to achieve academic excellence. Scholarship has taught me that while all things may not come without difficulty for me, but through hard work and dedication I can achieve almost anything.…

I believe that the four pillars of the National Honor Society are fundamental to the success of the society as a whole, as well as its individual members. Without strong character, honors students do not posses the leadership skills and the service-oriented attitude to experience success. Through ones service and leadership, scholarship is achieved and maintained. By making a commitment to learning, an individual effectively displays his or her character. In a way, each pillar has a connection to all of the others.…

National Honor Society (NHS) is built upon four key values (scholarship, character, leadership, and service), and I think that I exemplify all four of these values, as I show them through my contribution to the club now and as I will show them through my future officer position of secretary; due to the fact that I exhibit these qualities, I will also be able to leave NHS better than I found when I leave the club in the future. NHS has offered lots of service opportunities since I have joined the club, and it offers a challenging experience for the top students in the sophomore through senior classes; fifty hours must be completed by the end of the year for returning members, and fifty hours must be completed by the next school year for new members. The club ultimately instilled in me important and very useful life qualities. The service activities that must be completed improve my work ethic and ability to work in groups with others, and they also help me get involved more with my community. As a future officer, I would be a great example for members because I have all the qualities needed to be a great NHS leader, allowing me to contribute to NHS as much as I can and to also mold future members to be like myself.…

When I joined my high school’s chapter of National Honor Society, I didn’t know what to expect. I knew only that it involved community service and improvement projects. After joining, I decided to run for office within the group to gain experience in assisting large groups of people. My work as communication secretary involved being at every NHS project, officer meeting, and at a wide variety of community service projects so I could communicate my experiences with the rest of the members. I had served as an officer for almost a year when our faculty adviser’s employment was terminated unexpectedly.…

Walking in the first day, I was greeted by enthusiastic “scholars” as they are collectively referred to. These students have both challenged and furthered my analysis of the following philosophers-Martin Luther King Jr. and Thomas Hobbes. Throughout this reflection I will investigate further the experiences and people I have encountered thus far. Growing up I attended a private school. At the school everyone wore the standard navy blue skirt or pant option paired with a white polo shirt.…

One of the main reasons I want to join the Honors Program is the unique opportunity it offers for academic excellence. It literally places a demand on you to be excellent and gives you the help you need to keep up. Academic excellence as I know it is a key that helps one open doors in future careers. It is the first step towards getting the desired post-graduate spot or dream job. The very requirement for being considered for the program says it all –a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 out of the possible four points.…

Whereas schools who are required to wear uniform the students do not have this problem. They know exactly what they have to wear and can focus more on what classes will I have this year.…

School Uniforms School uniforms have been a controversial subject on whether students should wear them or not. There are many ways students can be conservative for school other than wearing a uniform. Therefore, I don’t think uniforms are necessary. School uniforms should not be mandatory because students should be able to express themselves, you pay more for certain uniforms, and it can affect one’s self-image. Students should be able to express themselves and uniforms take away their originality.…
