Persuasive Speech On Gun Control

Decent Essays
Hi guys,

I guess because I do not own nor have ever own a gun my thoughts are a lot different than most in our class. I fee that it's ok to protect your self in your home or if someone is trying to hurt you but many people are using guns to kill people for the wrong reason. Growing up in Chicago all of my life it's a beautiful state but it's so many gangs and people who have gotten a hold of guns it makes me sick that most of my family are scared to go places. Why should my mom be forced to by or deal with a gun if she doesn't feel safe? If people use guns for the right reason I am ok with it but killing for no reason is not ok. They need better background checks, and policies for people at gun shops. Our kids should not be a afraid to walk

More than 10,000 people die every year from gun homicide, and most are from around 15-24 year olds. About 8,512 people have died last year from gun violence. I believe that individuals should not be allowed to have the right to bear arms because in most cases, it does not actually help people, children have easier access to dangerous guns, and having a gun makes the owner living there statistically more dangerous. First of all, many people argue guns are needed for protection purposes, but there are rarely any cases of citizens using guns. According to Carimah Townes, a Criminal Justice Reporter for ThinkProgress,“Between 2007 and 2011, 29,618,300 people experienced a violent crime, but only 235,700 — 0.8 percent — of victims used or threatened…

On one side you have those who are for gun control as gun violence has become a serious problem in America. On the other side of the coin you have American citizens who believe strongly in their right to bear arms as it is a staple of the rights all Americans are granted. In the US, there are roughly 283 million guns in civilian hands. Although this in and of itself does not seem particularly damaging or harmful to anyone, the amount of deaths because of these guns shows otherwise. It has been reported that over 30,000 people are killed each year as a result of gun violence, ⅓ of these deaths consist of people under the age of 20.…

Not all people should be able to own guns. That shouldn't own guns but do, kill people that never even did anything. This goes back on how we need better background checks to prevent the people that shouldn't own a gun but still do and are killing innocent people. Innocent people are dying from people that shouldn't own guns.…

The dead tell better stories then the living. For instance, if anyone had survived from inside the WTC, perhaps everyone would know that it wasn’t a controlled demolition. Perhaps then, in september of every year, the victims families wouldn’t have to endure the constant disrespect of their loved ones deaths by tin foil wearing conspiracy theorists. The shooting of john Lennon and Ronald Regan were not part of any mass shootings. And yes, I’m sure Jodie Foster wished Hinkleys motives never came out.…

Imagine spending a girl’s weekend with your mom, while your dad and brother were away on a hunting trip and as you sit down to dinner and the phone rings. That phone call altered my life forever. The cringing sound of my uncle’s cry on the other side of the phone trying to spit words out to form a sentence, and when the sentence was clear enough to understand the words “Bruce was shot” came out of his mouth. Bruce for many people that may not know is my father. Undergoing surgery to get the bullet out of my dad’s leg, he was a half and inch away from an artery, a quarter of an inch away from a bone and one-fourth of an inch away from a vein.…

If we want to stop guns and the feeling of unsafeness, we need to correct our societal mentality. Therefore, we should have extensive psychological tests used frequently on every one that owns a gun and make sure they are mentally stable under stressful situations. Yes, there are people who are sick, and this is why background checks are also important. Obama recently stated, “He will increase access to mental health services,” and under the Brady Bill (1993), criminal background checks should be performed to every single person before buying a hand gun. I believe we should all think of ourselves as protectors of our communities, and you should not take away citizens’ rights of owning a…

On an average day in the United States 93 americans are killed by gun violence. There are also 1000’s of cases that involve a child being injured or killed by a stray bullet every year. Does this mean that guns are dangerous or does it mean we are using guns for the wrong intention? There are many reasons people use guns but like everything else some people use it for good and some for evil. Since the United States can't take away all of our guns I feel there should be some guns you should be able to purchase at your local store for self-defense or hunting and there are also some guns in which you should go through heavy background checks to be able to purchase.…
