Persuasive Speech On Gmo Free Foods

Decent Essays
I am contacting you today about GMO and GMO-free foods. States are voicing their own opinions as to whether or not they should be in control of labeling food products. I believe a national standard of labeling is a better option. The Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act of 2015 would ensure the Food and Drug Administration is in charge of food labels instead of individual states developing their own regulations. By creating a nationwide certification process for GMO-free foods, this process will save many consumers for even higher grocery bills and confusing label changes as they travel from state to state. Please, be a vocal champion for the H.R. 1599 and a vote "yes" when the companion bill reaches the Senate.

In recent years, the outcry of people against genetically modified food, or GM food, has become increasingly prominent in both commercial and governmental practices. GM foods have a negative connotation; people think that eating something that has been modified is going to poison their body. Not only that, but most of the American public believes that in doing this, humans are playing god, and have gone too far. However, none of this is true. So far, none of the GM food currently on the market has any ill-effects on humans.…

It is sad to think that 93% of crops grown in the U.S are genetically modified and our government cares more about a profit than its peoples health. GMOs must be stopped. The government is using GMOs to get a better yield out of their crops and to help fight against pesticides. But when fighting against pests they have to genetically modify our food so they can spray it down with a whole bunch of pesticides and in the end you are eating what was drenched in pesticides. Humans and animals are consuming GMOs and GMOs could be harmful to our health.…

But, of course, change never comes easily. Although support for GMO labeling is quite high among the public, GMO companies and advocates are still adamantly against it. Some publications argue that, rather than promoting consumer choice, GMO-labelling actually limits choice by skewing the public’s perception of GM food. This would put the produce in a negative light and would cause retailers to stop selling the products altogether. They also claim that the labeling of GMOs will raise groceries bills by as much as $400 per year.…

Choosing what foods are being put in a child’s mouth or your own, should be a first priority. This needs to be addressed before time passes and it is too late, as these illnesses start to occur. People may think just because the producer states it’s healthy, it is supposed to be healthy, therefore it must be all right to eat. This concept is very misunderstood because one may think corn is a healthy starch, but in reality if it comes across pesticides and is made with a GMO then how healthy is it in reality.…

Cody Mertz Mrs. Bauch 8th Block 16 May 2016 Did you know that using genetically modified organisms decreases the amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide, which decreases the risk of global warming. Not using GMOs will increase the use of pesticides, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and fertilizers. Today, I will try to persuade you why GMOs should be used in everyday farming. GMO is short for Genetically Modified Organism, which means that food and drink are injected with a genetically modified organism to give the food or drink a certain flavor or taste that it cannot make itself. Organisms can also have foreign genes inserted into them, almost the same thing as Genetically Modified Organisms but they come from animals, plants, and sometimes humans, instead of other foods (GMO Education).…

In order for this to be achieved, one needs a healthy body and mind. The state one’s body is in influences everything that is done throughout an average day, and is a priority to the majority. With a fast growing world, technology is being offered to consumers through GM foods, and is becoming “the norm in the American diet” (Gasparro). Perspectives on these foods are diverse, and some claim that they could “create future health problems in those who eat them” and are worried that they “often go to the market without testing” (Gay 51). Genetically engineered foods do, in fact, sound somewhat alien, and activists have stood up to defend the rest of the world’s population with the hopes to ban them.…

GM crops are both easier to grow and more efficient.…

Every day young adults across the nation consume food purchased by their parents, lunches prepared by their school cafeterias, and meals from their favorite restaurants, and are unconcerned and unaware of the ingredients contained in food products, and furthermore do not partake in choosing what they consume. Unfortunately, teenagers are consuming Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) almost constantly, whether they realize it or not. GMOs first commercialized in 1994, are genetically engineered through a process which consists of inserting foreign DNA from bacteria, viruses, animals, and humans into their primary species, resulting in various unintentional health consequences (GMO Awareness). The plethora of unknown results stemming from this genetic modification process, raise the important question of whether GMOs are safe for humans. Without further action, the human population will remain endangered due to the negative health effects of the genetic modification process, and young adults will continue to be most susceptible to these threats because of their unfinished development.…
