Australia has a proud heritage and an enduring cultural identity. What are we celebrating on January 26 and what does it mean to be Australian? Traditionally, it's about celebrating the First Fleet's arrival in 1788 and recognising the early convicts and settlers. The fact that our language, political and legal institutions are inherited from the British Isles, not anymore. I am writing you today because I am especially interested in efforts to provide Medicaid for the Marshallese citizens in our state. I feel that it is very important for all Marshallese citizens to have access to health benefits. When the United States signed the Compact of Free Association with the Marshall Islands and two other island nations in 1985, the US government agreed to provide financial and technical assistance in the field of health care. The Marshallese had their homeland, culture, and health sacrificed, so that the United States could conduct nuclear tests. The Marshallese are caught in an unjust system.…

The younger generation of Caucasians in immigrant heavy areas in the early 1900s used baseball to gain recognition and accolades that they wouldn’t normally receive. For example, family life at this time was very different. It wasn’t uncommon for the mother to be seemingly constantly pregnant or raising many children and for the father to be away at work. Due to this family dynamic the eldest son would get all of the attention while the younger siblings would get ignored. Luckily, the local newspapers would publish the box scores of local baseball games granting many youth priceless recognition (Story, 1995).…

Baseball holds standing as one of the most unique and historic sports in America and throughout the world. It is a game simply stated as “catch the ball, throw the ball, hit the ball”, yet paradoxically difficult. It is a sport that unites the rugged, down-and-dirty with the elegant, cutting-edge and fuses the rudimentary with the intricate. Major League Baseball, the sport’s pinnacle, is one of the most respected sporting organizations in the world and is known for its deep 19th century roots. Baseball’s Hall of Fame, in Cooperstown, New York, epitomizes baseball’s historic respect; honoring both the foundation of the game and the players that best exemplify the skills of the game.…

After America’s long journey of seeking freedom from governmental oppression, the newly formed nation was skeptical when it came to the discussion of new government authority. Many Americans were still uneasy about consolidated power, while others were aware of the prevalent national instability caused by the lack thereof. Though, in the end, the Constitution prevailed and has become the cornerstone of American government, the path that led to this enduring document was gradual and filled with apprehension and debate. Both sides of the issue had very clear and valid notions about either their support or opposition to the Constitution, and in the end were able to find common ground through patience and compromise.…
