On average, I get approximately 6 hours of sleep every night. One very obvious example of how a lack of sleep affects performance can be traced to my experiences taking the ACT. Out of the two times I have taken it, I’ve had very different experiences and results. The first time I took the test, I was so nervous that I only got 6 hours of sleep the night before and it was very apparent that I couldn’t focus throughout the session. The second time I took it, I was much more relaxed and got nearly 9 hours of sleep the night before. My scores also reflected that the extra sleep I got enhanced my performance, considering the fact that it improved by 3 points. Another, more general, example of how sleep deprivation has affected my actions is the way I feel and act towards others on a day when I’m running low on sleep. School times can sometimes be absurdly early, but because of later start times some problems stir up. Later school start times can increase grades and the well being of the kids, but the downfall of that is that schools have to pay extra for more buses because usually a district only has a few busses, which then makes the school start times staggered. Although the wellbeing of kids is far more important. The idea of staggering school time is smart but if its hurting the health of people I would pay the extra money to keep kids safe. The first reason that school should start later is because it will allow kids to be more well rested and makes it easier to focus.…

Schools should start later in the morning due to the fact that teens can possibly get better grades and that teens were made to wake up later. Teens wouldn't just deal with stress, they would notice things that they cannot control. Teens are not getting the learning experience they need to become doctors, lawyers etc. Many people believe that school should stay the way it is or problems will start to come. I disagree because if things don't start changing, then kids will never be able to do better in school.…

All middle and High schools should start the educational day later to allow the adequate amount of sleep for America’s teenage youth. Too many schools across the country begin the day before student minds are awake, alert, and ready to successfully take on the day. This makes everything they do, including simple everyday tasks, far more of a challenge than it typically should be. Oftentimes, teenagers, as well as society as a whole, put sleep on the backburner.…
