Aldous Huxley, the author of the futuristic dystopian novel “Brave New World” is innocent in rightfully challenging the idea of a modern utopia. Reiter, who is currently a mathematics instructor at Maine School of Science and Mathematics, stated that the “primary goal of mathematical writing is to assert, using carefully constructed logical deductions, the truth of a mathematical statement,” however the underlying goal of writing in math is to convince the reader to appreciate the beauty of the work described while allowing the reader to have a thorough understanding of the work. After reviewing my persuasive speech over why the University of Oklahoma is the best university in the nation, I would sum up my speech as a little bit of train wreck. Although I made good claims with factual evidence, the amount of stuttering I did, and all the times I was choked up throughout the speech drew my audience’s attention away. These two approaches are examined to understand why they function best together, and illustrations of a punitive and persuasive approach are given. The case study of an industrial disaster, such as the Kader Toy factory fire in 1993, is associated to highlight which key elements should be regarded as having the greatest potential in controlling this behaviour.
