Persuasive Speech About Fat Shaming

Ladies and gentlemen, as the head of the major fashion company Abercrombie and Fitch, I stand before you today to explain why our company and the fashion industry should not be under fire for fat-shaming. Like any other company in the die-hard world of fashion, all of our actions have a reason and purpose behind them. We have the right as an association to market only extra small through large sized clothing and use skinnier models to advertise our apparel. However, to certain people, our fat-shaming actions have made us Benedict Arnold 's to society even though our intent is virtuous. We are not implying that larger body types are not beautiful, but we are stating that there is a healthier body type that will be more beneficial as a whole. The lifestyle of someone who is overweight is overly glorified by the media. Someone who is overweight is not living their everyday life like an average person. Everyday they wake up and look in the mirror and feel incredibly insecure with the way they look. They are not comfortable in their own body. They want to curl up and hide from the world in fear that they are unloved for the way they look. Every glance at them seems like a dagger being plunged into their self confidence causing it to deflate more each day. Not to mention the physical strain being overweight can put on your body. Simple tasks like climbing up stairs become a marathon for those who have mistreated their body. No matter how many breaths they take no air seems to fill their immense lungs to distribute oxygen to the body. Their obesity has compromised their health to a point where their heart is fighting its own battle to try and pump blood to the body. This is a wretched and detrimental lifestyle that nobody should have to suffer through. By implementing fat-shaming, we are preventing this lifestyle from spreading to our children. Fat-shaming has allowed our company to reach financial security which has ensured thousands of employees their jobs at Abercrombie and Fitch. We are also idealizing a healthy body type that will conquer the achilles heel of our country, obesity. Teenagers and young adults will avoid the cataclysmic lifestyle of obesity by wanting to wear our clothes and follow in the footsteps of our models. Our nation’s obese population is growing and there is no time to lose as every second counts. We are attempting to spread the message that obesity is not a healthy or acceptable lifestyle. However, this message cannot be spread without your support. The fate of our nation lies in your
