Persuasive School Speeches

Last Monday, 4th of September at 9 am, in the school’s theater, the three ninth grade candidates held their speeches in hope to become this year's grade level representative. Three persuasive speeches were held from each representative; Noa, Ashim and Misha, trying to gain as many votes as possible by their peers.

Each grade has to elect one or two grade level representative to advocate for that specific grades voice, desires and opinions. This helps the school understand the students concerns and suggestions for improvements around the school.

Ashim Mitra: one of the candidates, descriptively said “it’s a chance for the grade nine to have a voice in the student council that would also argue for what we want.” Further explaining, “its an opportunity to make our year better.”

Representative, Noa Tali Levi, knew just the answer to this question and thoughtfully responded, “I don't believe anyone is just ‘better’ than the other, what really matters though, is the detection we put into this. You can clearly see the difference between us by looking at how much each of us really care and how far we are willing to go to follow-through with the promises each of us make”

As a winner of the elections, the candidate or candidates must go in at lunch at least once a week, frequently interact with their classmates and show leadership throughout the school.

According to the Student Council, being elected is a big opportunity: it doesn't just mean that you are reasonable for your specific year group and their wants. It also means that you are responsible for making the Zurich International School a better surrounding for all individuals involved throughout the

During the last week of my junior year, I attended South Dakota's Boy's State. For me this was an interesting experience because for the first time I was surrounded not only by the brightest students in my school, but the best and brightest from the entire state. Overall, this was an eye-opening experience because everyone attending had thoughts to contribute to running our own state. Those who became involved had their own personal perspective that was shaped by the social, economic, and geographical characteristics of their home region. The most intriguing aspect of the week had nothing to do with actual government policy.…

I am a senior at Mercer Island High School and will be attending the University of Washington in the fall. I actively participate in our democracy by writing letters and even traveling to Washington DC to lobby to Representative Adam Smith. I am writing to you because I have noticed a lack of political efficacy in the country and strongly believe that students should have a fair chance to have their voices heard. When I learned about children poisoned by the leaded water in Flint Michigan due to their multimillion-dollar deficit, I was touched and immediately thought of what my family would do if we couldn’t use water from our plumbing. I am very lucky to be living in a place where we don’t have to worry much about our water, but our increasing…

Disconnected from and regardless of my responses within the application to other skills, I would like to mention a more tangible, real-life example of one epitome of my experiential achievement. Throughout middle school, I felt constrained by the lack of opportunities of any type. Entering high school, though, opened new doors to social and political engagement. Soon after starting 9th grade, I applied, and got accepted into, Student Senate.…

One decision—more like a hilarious joke taken seriously—altered the future of my academic career. While sitting with a group of friends in the student center on the day of the Student Government elections, I thought, “Oh hey, wouldn’t it be funny if I wrote my name in on the ballot”? I got several peers in on this “prank”; we cast our votes, laughed, and thought nothing of it. Two weeks later, I was called in for an interview by the newly elected president. In retrospect, I realize my true motive and how much I actually toyed with the idea of being on the executive board; I knew I could rise to the occasion, and how ludicrous it would be to throw away my shot at making a lasting impression on the student body at Sandhills Community College.…

“I would like to introduce you to the next President of the United States–” The introductory speaker could hardly finish her speech as the crowd of over 3000 fans erupted into a frenzy of cheers and chants “–Bernie Sanders!”. A young college freshman stood in the Idaho Falls auditorium; he attempted to strain his neck to see the Senator from Vermont and potential Democratic Party Nominee. Removing his long blonde hair from eyes, he seemed almost oblivious to the pandemonium that surrounded him. He wasn’t cheering, he wasn’t chanting, he wasn’t gracing the candidate with the kind of enthusiasm expected. So, why was he here?…
