It makes sense that after an arduous day at work, the first thing most people seek is some escape from their monotonous routine. But let me ask you this. Does the close up of Denzel Washington meticulously drilling into the back of some Russian mobster’s skull, to the rhythm of Zack Hemsey’s spine-chilling soundtrack, really provide the sort of relief that you are searching for? However, I see my obsession with olden day films as more than just a simple passion or interest. Films give me access to other worlds, which are available to me at anytime. They take me to places I’ve never been and inside the skin of people quite different from myself. From the time I was in nappies, I’ve had a difficult time fitting in. While teddy bears and Tonka trucks fascinated all the other kids, they did little to fuel my imagination. Films are one of the few things I can really relate to. I can feel the texture of a silk dress in a costume drama like ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’. I can smell the blood bursting off a smoking bullet in ‘The Magnificent Seven’.
