Persuasive Letter To Middle School

Dear Mr. Burns and Mrs. Maro,

Many students at Washington Middle School agree that the shorts rule shouldn't exist. For various reasons the shorts dress code is unfair and harmful to the students learning. The heat is unbearable let alone while wearing pants. Shorts that meet dress code requirements aren't easy to find for female students and Why does Washington have a shorts rule when other air conditioned schools in the DCSD don't have one? In this letter I hope you realize how unfair and harmful the shorts dress code really is.

First off its too hot to be wearing long shorts and pants, the first week alone the weather reached up to 88 degrees! Since you can't provide air conditioning the least you could do is allow us to wear shorts. As the temperature rises the harder it is to learn and stay focused if we could wear shorter shorts, that would cool us down and allow us to stay focused easier. Being over heated that long can be dangerous to students with health conditions and even to an average student. In hot weather and high humidity our bodies natural cooling system may start to fail leading to illness such as heat cramps, heat exhaustion and even heat stroke!

If you do, after endless searching it is hard to find a decent style and the right size. The only shorts that meet the dress code requirements are basketball shorts and those are hard to find in girl\women styles. That means that the only option is pants which is extremely hot in 80 degree weather. However, you might feel that the shorts rule keeps students clothes modest which in ways it does, but it makes more sense to punish students who aren't wearing modest attire than punish the whole school with the shorts dress

Dear David, Thank you for your question. Yes, you can stick Velcro straps to the surface of our fabric bulletin board (not the cork variation), but the adhesive force is not very strong. Our bulletin board is designed more as a pin board, that means you adhere pictures, papers, notes, etc by pins (there are 10 colorful pins included in the set). Kind regards Tomas M. - Team Navy Penguin…

There are many differences in school dress codes, for examples in our school, Sunset Ridge Middle School who has 12 different rules, the major being that we are not allowed to wear any articles of clothing that are mutilated, cut-off, or immodest. Stapley Junior High in Mesa, Arizona who only has six rules, are allowed to wear any article of clothing that do not show any straps, see through, or do not cover the entire back. Schools in different states have different dress code rules along with having teachers and administrators who have different interpretations of how they should be. Therefore, we do not know what dress code is the best or most correct for students and should allow the student to have their own decision in what they…

Fingertip length shorts are hard enough for most girls to find let alone girls with long arms, it can be almost impossible some female students to find a pair of “school appropriate” shorts to wear school. If the situation is getting out of hand such as when the Albemarle County, Va passed rules towards a new dress code when lawsuits were filed and eventually taken to court where the judge said,”’the dress code is too broad-- and may be unconstitutional’”(Robson para. 6). With a school under these lawsuits and feeling as though their students are wearing inappropriate clothing; the easiest way to handle the situation is to enforce a school uniform. This way all genders are treated equally, the reasoning behind the rules are set in a reasonable manner, and the dress code is easy for everyone to follow. All schools that don't require a certain uniform including Jackson High School should adjust their dress code with the ideas of: the difficulty to follow the dress code, the reasoning behind the dress code, and the inequality of gender treatment. These changes in all schools alike would make the environment so much better for teenage girls constantly on the search for clothes that are, cute, appropriate, and fit their size.…
