Dear Governor Rauner,
This letter is to address my position on capital punishment that it’s never acceptable to kill or murder because the “Eye for Eye” (Messerli) or Tooth for Tooth is not an ethical theory. As Christian we no longer live by the law an Eye for an Eye, which was represented in the book of Exodus 21:22-25; we live by grace, which is stated in Matthews 5:38-42. To put the bible in layman terms from New International Version it mentions the following about Eye for Eye:
Exodus: 21:22-25 (Law Living)

(Messerli) We no longer live in the era were the acts of people were justified for taking revenge another person, it’s simply viewed as “barbaric and violates the cruel and unusual clause in the Bills of Rights” (Messerli) and the “Value of Life Principles” (Krasemann and Thiroux, 2015, 2012, 2009). How will you teach society that murdering or killing isn’t allowed, when the State law agrees that it is okay to execute serial or insane murders and killers? In paraphrasing it’s much like when your parents say, “Do as I say and not as I do”, which is so far from the truth, because children learn from precepts and examples. No matter how old we get everyone are learning by precepts and examples according to rules given or guideline to suit their beliefs. For example, a reason for sending the criminal to prison is to rehabilitate, how can they learn if you’re saying “capital punishment is issued fairly, just and accurate”. (‘Ryan, 2002) How do you determine what is fair, just and accurate, passing judgments is only from the perspectives of humans? The inmates regardless how corrupt they are their moral values are close to the Exodus 21:21-25, they are totally against murders who kill babies, pregnant women and senior citizens. This is similar to the laws of capital punishment, it’s eliminating …show more content…
People are mostly morally good, and the bottom line people want a reason why you did it or a public apology for what you have done. Inmates being sentenced a lifetime in prison will have a chance to be rehabilitated and realize the pain they caused on families. It will also be a deterrent to others to not commit a barbaric crime in order to avoid a lifetime in
