My name is Grace Collins, and I am a junior in high school. I am writing this letter to ask that you reverse the law that legalized marijuana for recreational use in 2012. I first realized the dangers of marijuana when multiple kids from my school were suspended and several others expelled for using it. The schools’ actions changed these kids and their families lives forever, but they may have saved them from future addiction or worse. These students were underage, but because marijuana is legal, it makes it easy for a sibling or friend, who is over twenty-one years old, to buy it and pass it around. For instance, the use of marijuana can impair one’s memory, making it hard to remember what he or she did while they were high. Also, it increases people’s difficulty with thinking and problem-solving, and it changes people’s moods, whether sad, mad, or angry. A study conducted at a postal office found that when employees used marijuana they had 55% more accidents, 85% more injuries, and 75% increase in not showing up for work. Also, because marijuana impairs one’s reaction time, it can increase people’s risk of getting in an accident while driving. In conclusion, marijuana that is used for recreational use should be illegal in Washington because the short-term effects can harm the user and others around
