Overview
Abortion is a very controversial topic in this day and age. It is a medical procedure which involves the deliberate induction of a miscarriage for pregnant women who wish to terminate their pregnancy for various reasons. The reasons can vary greatly and include (but are not limited to) if the pregnancy or birth may harm the women's health, it may be caused by rape or incest or the child may have severe medical defects which will affect the child's life. At least 80,000 women per year in Australia will choose to have an abortion as it is the safest and most common type of surgery. The group of people who support the medical procedures of abortions are called Pro-choice in which they value that it is a woman’s right to have the freedom to do what they choose with their bodies and

The arguments generally used by pro-life supports is that they believe life starts at conception and by having an abortion, which means that the life of a child is being taken away. Continuing on from that point, they also believe that if a woman has been raped and chooses an abortion, they are punishing the child for crimes they did not commit. They also use the argument that putting a child up for adoption can be an alternative as with millions of families all over the world wishing to adopt, no child is ever unwanted. For those who pay tax, it is also considered unfair that taxpayers who do not support abortion are paying for something in which they do not approve of. Abortions make cause a lot of psychological pain and stress to the women and can also have many medical complications which is why pro-life considers abortions to be morally wrong. Young women who choose abortions may not fully grasp the situation happening which lead them to regret their decision in the
