Persuasive Essay: Why Metal Detectors Should Be In Schools

Improved Essays
I think metal detectors should be in schools for safety reasons of students and staff from students bringing in weapons and other staff members so no one gets hurt. There have been many school shootings over the past couple of years around the US. Some major some not that bad but people still get scared and shot. Some people have brought in knives and have cut people or stab them. And i don’t think that is okay we should try to prevent that from happening.
I say “Schools need to take all possible measures to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.” Safety should be number 1 in a school not learning because if someone gets hurt or injured from these people bringing in weapons they most likely come back to that school. If you don’t have kids coming back from safety reasons the staff should take that to note. The staff will need to step up and get metal detectors and give the kids a better chance at being safe.

Listen to this “Maria Ocadiaz “ said,“In schools currently using detectors, students have been caught with guns, knives and other weapons.” That could potentially lead to another injury someone getting killed at a school. Those people bringing them in are clearly capable and getting something and giving it to someone else and then bringing it to school to hurt someone. Catching the people bringing in weapons is a huge relief to staff member and the kids.
When kids are at school they should be earning and safe. According to Maria OCadiz , “Installing metal detectors gives students and staff a measure of psychological assurance that the school is safe because every person has to be cleared through the entrance” They have done tests and votes at schools do they feel more safe when the detectors are there. The students that feel more safe with them there win the vote every time because there is a way to prevent those

If teachers have access to the weapons, an intruder could also gain access only increasing the potential for violence. Concealed handguns in the schools would be kept in a secure area and teachers and administrators would have strict procedures in carrying the gun on school grounds. There would be more responsibility for the teachers and administrators, but in order to protect students teachers would welcome new regulations. The battle continues in state legislatures across the country.…

Imagine the idea of being defenseless against an attacker trying to wreck havoc on your teachers and fellow classmates. The worst feeling in the world is when you are helpless, and there is nothing you can do during a situation. Not allowing our teachers to carry a weapon while on school grounds is a great way to achieve this helpless feeling. Since 2013, there have been over two hundred school shootings in America- an average of nearly one a week. Between 2013 and 2015 an average of two shootings on K-12 schools took place per month.…

Many teachers and administrators are unsure about how pupils may handle altercations and stressors of everyday campus life with the easy access of guns and worry that talking to students about their schoolwork and grades can cause retaliation. The majority of new policies are met with a mixture of praise and criticism. However, it would be a challenge to find any teacher who does not believe it is his or her responsibility to protect the students. Allowing teachers to be armed in the classroom would increase the likelihood of everyone surviving if an active shooter enters the room because it would provide additional protection if the teachers are properly trained. Knowing any of us could be armed by making this policy public knowledge could make the possibility of that shooter entering the building even less likely. Hopefully no school will ever need to evaluate if this was the right decision or not, but in case that day does come, it would be better to determine the effectiveness of allowing teachers to be armed than having to determine how to attend a dozen students’ funerals or leaving my family to plan…

The fact that the firearms are concealed is crucial. Since the handguns are concealed, a criminal would be unable to detect whether a classroom has armed staff or not (Crime Prevention Research Center). Students who are nervous when seeing firearms wouldn't be scared because the handguns would be hidden. President Trump advises school boards to protect the staff of each district with insurance to reduce the risk of liability, which should put those with concern for the staff at ease (“Arming Teachers and School Staff”).…

Over the past few years there has been an escalation in the use for guns. One reason for why this might be happening is because the guns are being used for mass school shootings, such as: the Sandy Hook shooting, the Parkland shooting, and many others that people don't even know about. This problem has now caused a controversy over whether teachers should carry guns while working in school or not. Many people believe that the only way to defend children during these shootings is if the staff carry guns. Although this idea seems to have many great advantages against shooters, it also opens room for more issues involving the children and the teachers.…

These teachers should go through the most intensive background check because they have the ability to hurt a lot more kids than a random person trying to shoot up a school. If the teachers can get a hold on a gun and then tell the guy with the gun that every class is packed and ready to shoot then I believe the maniac will come to his senses and get out of the school. I feel the same way about guns in the workplace. For example at my mom's shop, she was looking at the cameras and someone was breaking into a truck late at night and instead of my mom having a gun for self-defense at her work place she had to take cover as the robber shot a bullet in her direction. This is why I feel so strongly about gun rights and where you can and can't take them.…
