Persuasive Essay: Why Are Guns Are Good?

Improved Essays
Someone has just broke into your house and they are armed, are you? Personally I would like to be armed in this situation so I could protect myself. This is one of the reasons that make me feel that guns are good. Guns can be used in many ways but I have chosen three. They are good because we can use them for entertainment, hunting, and protection. These are all very good reasons of why guns are good and why you should own one. Some people think guns should be banned completely but hopefully after this speech you are not one of those people. So how bout we get to how guns can be used for entertainment. Guns have many uses of entertainment but when I think of it only a few pop into my mind. These are rifles shotguns and pistols. Rifle shooting …show more content…
You can use rifles for long-range competitions to better your accuracy at long ranges or they can be used to compete against other marksmen. Rifles are probably the safest and most fun way to blow stuff up with Tannerite. For all of you who do not know what Tannerite is, it is a mixture of chemicals that explodes when hit with an object at great speed. This is fun because you just place the Tannerite in the object you would like to blow up and shoot at it from a safe distance. It is entertaining and a good way to blow things clean out of existence. Another way to entertain you with a rifle is to set up still targets in different spots and set up moving targets to become even more skilled at as marksmen. The last use for entertainment of rifles that pops into my mind is precision shooting. According to the national shooting sports foundation Sabrina Siddiqui said precision shooting has been around since the early 17th century and has become more advanced every since then. Precision shooting is when a marksman goes head to head with another marksmen in a timed challenge to see who can hit the target the most and scores the most points. Without guns, hunting we would not be where we are today. Hunting has always been a source of food and will always be a source of food even a hundred years from now. A type of food that hunting has given us is meat. Dried meat smoked grilled or even raw if you like it that way. Meat is very important to human life because it provides us with key nutrients we need to live. Hunting these animals for these types of food also keep the animal population down. If we didn’t have guns, we would not be on top of the food chain and the world would be over run with animals. So this is another reason guns help keep control of population levels. The last way guns are good for hunting is for sport and trophy. Sport and trophy hunting has been around since the beginning of guns. Do you want to go out and kill a deer with a spear?? I wouldn’t either; this is why guns are good for trophy hunts. All you have to do is go out and track that animal down for a couple of days and when you finally see it you can easily take a shot at it from a safe distance and you have your trophy, the 10 by 10 everyone has been talking about for 3 years. The other reason for sport hunting is bragging rights. Since you shot the biggest buck in town you can brag about it for a long time to all your friends until they shoot one bigger than you. But don’t get ahead of yourself

Growing up, almost every single girl my age played soccer, but I on the other hand, found myself spending a lot of my weekends at the Koko Head Shooting Range. I first learned how to shoot when I was 9 years old and since then, I have been utterly hooked. However, I never really talked about this passion with my friends because when most people hear the word “gun” or “shooting” they associate those words with violence and crime. But to me, this hobby represents so much more. Even though I always found excuses to not try out for the air riflery team at my high school, I still believe that shooting is an exemplary individual sport that assists in developing critical life skills.…

In Octavia Butler’s novel, Parable the Sower, she suggests that guns are necessary for protection. When Lauren’s community burns down, one of the first things she gets from her house is a gun, because she knows it is a necessity to have it outside. She knows of the importance of guns and how they protect you because her father took the community kids 15 years and older for shooting practice. He did this because he knew that one day they wouldn’t have the protection of the wall. Lauran’s ability to handle a gun helped her protect the large group of people she was with and eventually got her to Bankole’s land and helped her form her Earthseed community.…

Guns help make the world of self defense a fair place even when it comes to large criminals versus the elderly. In fact, in California a few years back in 2013, a 72 year-old woman fired her .357-magnum Smith & Wesson revolver at a home intruder thwarting this attack (Grandma, 72, Shoots at Home Intruder). Without the help of the firearm, this situation would have turned out much different, maybe even deadly for the homeowner. There are also many other reasons why the Second Amendment can be exercised effectively. If you have a gun you might as well get the most use out of it right?…

Guns are powerful. Not only in how much damage they can do to you with just one bullet fired, but even the presence of a gun can send any man, saint or criminal, running. Guns can be used as a form of offense and defence. They can protect our society, more than they damage it. Although some believe that gun control should further restrict the selling of firearms, they actually shouldn’t because they can be used as a form of defence, and citizens have the right, stated in the second amendment, to keep and bear arms.…

By Federal law gaining legal access to a gun is a process simpler than a refinancing a family home in the United States. Our government states that under federal law a licensed gun dealer cannot sell any handguns and/or ammo to anyone that is under 21 and can’t sell long arms (Shot guns/ rifles) to anyone under the age of 18 but an unlicensed dealer cannot sell handguns to anyone under 18 and can sell long arms to anyone regardless of age. Everyday there are up to nine deaths under the age of 21 daily, leaving us with an issue that has been here for such a long time but has been continuously ignored and overlooked because most people go about finding solutions for guns in extreme ways. It’s not about getting rid of guns but controlling how…

After obtaining guns, children and adults collect them and proceed to improve their accuracy in shooting, but getting rid of them would make the world a dangerous place. Many people who believe that guns are the leading cause of death in the United States, are incorrect. A gun is not a person, it has no feelings nor can it move on its own it cannot be personified nor be blamed for any of the actions. A gun must be wielded by a person and that person is the one responsible for pulling the trigger. If guns were banned and somehow a criminal couldn’t get his hand on one illegally, they can still kill.…

It became the social norm to have at least one stored away in most households. However, over time the tool that was once used for self-defense and as a last resort has now been turned into a weapon of mass destruction. Some might argue for the removal of guns from homes altogether.…
