I clicked on “Safe Kids Day” and then “What is Safe Kids Day?” There I learned how I can make a home safe for children and that car crashes, drownings, fires and falls are the leading cause of death to children in the United States. When teaching about this topic, this is something middle school students might be interested in, they could have a younger sibling that they might feel obligated to protect.
I clicked on “What we do” and then under Library clicked on “Fact Sheets.” Next I clicked “Bicycle, Skate and Skateboard Safety Fact Sheet 2016” This provides me with the latest statistics on injury and death rates with children. When I opened up the PDF it provided several graphs showing death rates and

Often students or parents do not know what to do when they are being cyberbullied. On this page it demonstrates the steps you need to take in order to report cyberbullying. This is a site my students can look at in case they are being bullied and could help prevent cyberbullying from taking place. I could show this site to upper elementary and older and then as a class I show them videos and students could make a script and act out a scenario with a victim and bully. The main feelings I would want to get across is how the victim feels when being …show more content…
It also gives some myths about students who bully that would need to be brought up. I like that it talks about the Five R 's’: Response, Research, Record, Report, Revisit and this is something that I could up in my classroom.
Grades 7-8: Under Safe schools I clicked on “Teen Dating Violence Prevention” then scrolled down to Curricula Introduction and clicked on “7th and 8th Grade Curriculum.” It downloaded on my computer and I clicked the first Module. I liked that this lesson plan has true and false statistics that go along with dating violence. In this activity students are given relationship scenarios and they have to determine whether there behavior is healthy or not. Towards the end of the lesson, I like that students are able to create their own definition of violence with a

Bullying has become a huge issue in all ages across the world, and it is not getting any better as the years go by. Like the bullying scenes in The Glass Castle, cyberbullying and peer pressure are all relevant and growing concerns today. Cyberbullying has been a major issue among children and young adults around the United States. Cyber bullying is directly defined as “willful or repeated harm inflicted through the use of computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices” (“What is CyberBullying?”). If an adult is involved in the incident, then it can be defined as cyber-harassment, or cyberstalking, which is a crime that has legal consequences (“Cyberbullying”).…

My favorite lesson/topic I learned this year was about cannibalism, Jamestown and Disney’s inaccurate movies. I liked learning about Jamestown because when the settlers ran out of food, they ate each other. I also liked learning about this because we got to play Minecraft and build our own little Jamestown. I enjoyed learning about cannibalism in general because I liked seeing Jaylens reaction about everything, and because it was just fun to learn about in general. If someone does cannibalism or “Biggest Fails in History” for ROWVA Chill I'm definitely taking that class.…

Whomever those readers are, whether they are parents, teachers or healthcare providers, such readers could find the information provided by the CDC useful. The CDC effectively catches the audience by providing information through the use of emotion, logic, and credible information. This information is out and could be used to help a child get the help they need and deserve. This is what the CDC had in mind when they created the page. They utilized pathos, logos and ethos to appeal to the audience and get the information out in a successful…

Cyber-bullying can happen to anyone, but several teenagers have fallen victim to and experienced this type of bullying firsthand. The bullying occasionally starts off as something minor, but can quickly escalate and cause severe emotional or even physical damage. By not educating our pupils on the seriousness of cyber-bullying, may cause more cases to develop. Not enough information is being supplied amongst schools and teenagers may not know how to react if victimized. It is important to disseminate information as far as signs to look for, what to do if victimized, as well as support and in what manner to handle this type of bullying.…

The book I read was Stolen Children, by Peg Kehret. This was one of my favorite books to read, there was always something new going to happen and I didn’t want to put it down. It was also so realistic, like I would think of myself in a type of situation like this and it’s just unreal to imagine it. Also, if you thought something was going to happen, you would be totally wrong and you wouldn’t believe how off you were in guessing what would happen next, which is why I liked this book so much.…

The first picture book I looked through was Preschool Day Hooray! by Linda Leopold Strauss and illustrated by Hiroe Nakata. The story is about activities a child will experience in a typical preschool day. There is not a lot of text in the story, I would estimate and say an average of 5 words per page. Reviewing the table “How Illustrations Contribute to Picture Book Stories” I noticed several literary elements.…

I know we don’t usually have conversations like this and normally it’s mom that is sharing her knowledge, wisdom, and giving us advice. You’You’re scrolling through Twitter or Facebook, and you come across a post of one saying hurtful and insulting things to another. Preferably you just scroll right past it without blinking, thinking to yourself, “There is nothing I can do,” or “Who will listen to me anyway”? Nearly everyone who goes online witnesses cyber bullying and just sits by and watches it happen. Some people might not even care, but the ones that do can really change the lives of others by doing something about it instead of watching someone being victimized by another. Something as simple as just reporting the post or telling someone about the cyberbullying could help or even save the life of the teenager or adult whose being harassed.…
