Imagine you are laying outside in the grass. You see the clouds moving in the sky. You feel a small breeze, and it ruffles your hair. The smell of grass is so strong; you can almost taste it. And as you are looking up, you see a flock of birds. You imagine how it would be like to be so free, soaring in the air. The calmness that would overcome you, yet such a rush at the same time. The air and leaves dancing around you. You never want to land. For four years, I was a bird. I had my chance to fly, and it gave me a confidence no one could take away.
It started all the way back in seventh grade. It’s that awkward stage in life where you don’t know who you want to be, or what you want to do for the next five years. A lot had changed since my first few weeks in seventh grade. Looking back now, it’s amazing how one person can change so much in a matter of years. Those first couple of practices and games in seventh grade were very nerve racking for me. I had never been good at speaking in front of a bunch of people, and there I was about to cheer in front of a bleacher full of them! As my first year went by, I got better at cheering and I was less nervous about being in front of so many people. Now, here I am, a senior in high school.
It is amazing how one sport changed my life for the better. Throughout those five years, I worked as hard as I could to reach my full potential in cheerleading. I found out that all that work finally paid off. I was a flyer on the cheer squad. Which, has been my dream since I was little. I’ve always thought stunting was a beautiful part of the sport, if done right. Watching someone go in the air with ease, and then do a trick that seems so difficult. Yet, the top girl seems to do it
