When I am a mother I will have dating rules for my children that they will need to follow. The first dating rule I have is that both children must be similar in age. I will not approve if my child is thirteen and dating is someone who is seventeen. The age range for my child is about a one year difference. If my child would date someone significantly older, they could convince my child to do things that may not be right. I will talk to my child about what will happen if they chose to have sex at a young age and how alien it will be to have a child at sixteen. In August of 1992, just four months after Chris walked alone into the wild, his perishing body was found by a party of moose hunters. Chris went into the wild hoping to get away from corrupt society and to live a transcendentalist lifestyle. In her essay “Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior,” Amy Chua informs the readers of the Chinese way of raising a “stereotypically successful child.” The Chinese childrearing method forbids many activities, including having “playdates” and excelling in drama. Chua’s method is not only extreme but also counterproductive. Firstly, when Chua condescendingly refers to the time a child spends bonding with other children as “playdates,” she is ignoring the vital skill learned through these bonds, these personal connections, which can be advantageous in the professional world.…

Some rules are age appropriate, as a parent would expect more from an older child than that of a young child. “…cooking hotdogs by myself at the age of three. It was easy I said…” (10). This would be the perfect example of an age appropriate rule, a three year old should not be making hot dogs, however a fourteen year old could. Yes, some parents do get too caught up in rules to really think about how it will affect the child in the long run.…

On Friday, June 26 2015 the Supreme Court ruled in favor of marriage equality in all fifty states. The five to four decision would forever change the lives of members in the lesbian, gay, transgender community and the rest of the country. The circumstances in which this ruling came about was tragic, the concerns around the case caused a lot of controversy but clearly the right decision was made. I really don’t understand why people don’t get this. I realize that it may be difficult for some to expand their traditional views on relationships and marriage, but we as a society need to accept the fact that others have qualities that make them slightly different yet we are all the same.…
