The Process of Becoming a Teacher
Teaching young children is necessary because they are our nation’s future. Teaching impacts society by making sure that children learn the standards that each state has set. Students typically spend fourteen years in elementary and secondary school combined, and teachers can make an impact. The path to becoming a teacher is challenging, but in the end, it can be worth it because teachers are able to mold young minds.

“For a student to become a teacher for K - 12th grade in a public school, they must first earn a bachelor 's degree and receive state certification” (Educational). While a teacher is getting their bachelor’s degree, job shadowing is a good way to see how the students act and to see if they actually want to be a teacher. “My advice to someone who wants to become a teacher is to observe as much as possible” (Dietrich). While in the classroom, the teacher may interact with the students as if they were their own. Student teaching is a big key when choosing which grade level a teacher is interested in. The student teacher will observe what the teachers go through daily and how they deal with a variety of situations. A student teacher gets experience with that age level and decides if that is what they want to teach. “During the student teaching experience, pre-service teachers are guided and instructed by two key individuals - the cooperating or mentor teacher, and the university supervisor” (Student). This is the time for the student teacher to ask questions and understand all the aspects of planning a lesson. During the student teacher’s junior and senior year of college is typically when all of the observing and student teaching takes place. It is not easy to become a teacher but the best part is the smile on each child’s face when they understand what is being taught. When a child finally has that moment where they understand what they were taught, there will not be a better feeling because that teacher knows that they made an impact on society.
