Persuasive Essay: The Importance Of School Football

Kids are walking around in school jerseys, eating healthy and staying active. This is what school hallways would look like if we still had school sports. This topic is important to me because it helps and prepares kids for life after school by showing them they have to work as a team. Sports also keep kids active and off the streets. Though school sports are canceled, that doesn’t mean they should be or deserve to be, since they keep kids healthy, and teaches life lessons. First of all, some people say that football is dangerous, but the health of the players say otherwise. Statistics suggest that people playing football are healthier than their counterpart of non-players. This makes sense because of all the pushing, pulling, jumping, running, and tackling they have to do. Also, football players have a lower rate of death. Out of a pool of NFL players and your average Joe, only 334 died who played in the NFL and 625 non-players died. Football also helps mental health, it releases endorphins. It teaches youth important life lessons that they will use in their adult lives, such as teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. Teamwork is a skill that football mainly teaches. Being on a team sometimes with 90 other people doing summer training camps, spring training, and 2 practices a day you can get attached and bond with other players. It is also taught to trust and its ok to rely on other people to do their jobs. Discipline is a strong and tough lesson to learn. Without self discipline you can’t make it through football or real life. It also teaches Players to work hard, yet another instance of a skill that everyone needs. Football also teaches perseverance, it doesn’t matter if you miss a tackle or miss a catch, what matters is that they stick with it to the end.
