Whether or not America should be funding space exploration, namely the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), does not really get debated much. However, when this subject is brought into question people tend to take a strict stance on one side or the other. It is easy to dismiss the entire objective of putting man in space as a waste of time and resources, but that could not be further from the truth. Space exploration stimulates technological innovation and provides a clear path for economic growth. Defunding NASA would be counter productive and only slow America's overall long-term economic progress; if anything NASA's budget should be increased rather than decreased.

They only thing that seems to be directly produced by space is hunks of rock. The only thing that seems to be produced by NASA, without investigation, is photos. There is little on the surface that would lead people to believe that there is anything useful in the mostly empty and dangerous environment. However it is simply not true. Space is a vast untouched source of resources. Harnessing what it can provide will change the very way humanity exists. The technology to make space an easy source of material is certainly not available today. But companies know what is out there and they are establishing plans. What NASA is doing today, and what they have been doing since their creation, is paving the way for the private market to reach out the said resources. If there is any negative emotion that should be associated with mankind's obsession with space it is greed. Pioneering into space is not a waste of time, it is not a mad trip into the unknown, it is a clear path for humanity to follow. It is the way forward from here and it really is a promising
