Despite the new outburst of year-round schooling across the nation, I have the firm belief that we should retain the traditional system. Most schools who have switched to the year round calendar switched back to the traditional one because the anticipated instructional advantages haven’t materialized. In some cases, it even results in a drop of one to two percentile points in national rank for reading, math, and language scores, compared to a traditional calendar. It is not a good idea to keep making this change.…

(Fry 3) Why are we still using the same system after all these years? We question our schools, teachers, standards, work ethic and we blame technology, the generational changes, and even ourselves, but could it be that our system is failing because our structure is not a solid as it once was? If a house’s foundation is crumbling, you do not keep remodeling the house in hopes that the structure itself will be repaired, you tear the whole thing down and start over, which is exactly what needs to be done with the American Education System. This would be an extremely long and difficult process and it would affect a lot of different aspects of our everyday lives but without major changes and sacrifices, our system is going to continue to fail.
