An Six Hour Day

All schools in the United States must have a school day that is six hours or less. This gives children an opportunity to gain an education for their future, but also allows them to enjoy their hobbies and passions outside of school. There's also an more gracious amount of time after school for children to complete the homework that is assigned to them so they don’t stress over their assignments as much. This lets children enjoy their childhood carefree before entering the stressful life of an adult. Now they can enter adulthood with more enthusiasm, rather than being tired and stressed before becoming of age.

Having heard the testimony about the working conditions of children, I have already voted to change the law to restrict the number of houses which children can work up to 8 hours a day. Being said this as a member of parliament in England, I will also vote a “yes” on proposing the “Ten Hour Bill”, which will allow adults to only work up to ten hours a day instead of thirteen. This bill will allow them to work for only ten hours since they work under poisonous conditions, they will allow them to have the same labor rights as children, and will prevent further body deformation from the amount of work they are putting their body in a day. Can you see yourself working for thirteen hours a day and only having a fifteen-minute break? I know I wouldn’t be able too.…

Picture a boy trying to juggle his schoolwork and his job but then they add a two hour extension which makes it harder for him to do his job efficiently. Do we think it is right to force a kid to do two hours more at school? To begin, I believe that our school should not follow the same model as businesses because of the following reasons: students will get home later than usual, students will have less time to sleep, and parents will not like us staying too late at school. First, students will get home later than usual.…

Ms. Goldberg should ban homework. I chose this topic because I am personally for it. In order for kids to have better memory and higher test scores, we need to make sure our kids are getting more sleep so they do well in school, and therefore do not have the need to do homework. There is no clear evidence supporting the claim that homework improves grades or the understanding of the students. Teachers have to work a full day and then go home and grade homework.…

Studies show that students are more alert after nine o'clock. With school starting at 7:44, the first two periods seem like a waste. Students aren't learning to their full potential, and as a result aren't getting the grades they are capable of. Over twenty percent of all high school students fall asleep in school at one time or another. It's hard to learn while you're sleeping.…

Many children today are starting to dread going to school, they consider it a “prison”. Hence why there is tension in schools all over the country between individuality and conformity. A big issue we have in our schools that aids to this tension would be the given structure of the school day, whether it is a set schedule or mandatory attendance. Schools should resort to more student individuality vs. conformity. To start, many students and adults compare our schooling system to a prison.…

Curfew Essay Have you ever thought that the government is too powerful, well now they are starting to make set curfews because they assume all kids are bad? The government is basically saying that adults aren’t qualified to raise their own kids so they are doing it for them. The government should not be allowed to do this to teens because it should be theirs and their parent’s responsibility on if they can go out and when they have to be back in the house. The government is becoming too powerful and we can’t let this slide. In this essay I will be going over how curfews don’t reduce crime, how it punishes kids that aren’t doing anything wrong, and finally it doesn’t keep kids safer.…

School Days Starting Later “Waking up early for school is the best!”, said no one ever. If schools were to start later in the day, students would get the right amount of sleep they need each night, their academic performance would increase, and, most importantly, they would be happier. “Getting enough sleep is important for students’ health, safety, and academic performance,” said Anne Wheaton, the study’s lead author and epidemiologist in the CDC’s Division of Population Health. There may be conflicts in changing this but, it could be really beneficial to the students.…

Recently the academic school hours in our district have increased. This change might have many potential benefits, but as students we believe that the negative aspects of such a change would have many negative impacts. As we try to compete academically with other nations, we are losing sight of our goals. American students are some of the most well-rounded students globally. We are talented in the arts and sports, committed to improving our community, and still succeed academically.…

I completley agree with allowing children having their own free time to engage in imaginative and creative play versus more organized activities. Children already participate in a structured organized enviorment at school for most of their day. Children have the capibility of developing critical thinking and problem-solving solutions on their own, if allowed. As a society we already have full days with jobs, homes to take care of and community functions. If we can allow our children to have additional creative play time we should encourage them.…

Have you ever wanted more time off of school by adding more hours to a normal school days? Well I don’t think think we should because students feel stress already and adding another hour would not help any. So I believe that our school days should stay the same because you would already be tired and your brain would be tired, you won’t have time at home, and making up work will be hard. I think if school goes on any longer than students won’t be focused and they will be tired.…

A 4-day Week May Be the Solution How does a three day weekend sound? As a student, a three day weekend sounds awesome! With budget cuts, schools have been desperately trying to find a solution and a four-day school week may just be it. Installing a four-day week would mean a Monday or Friday off of school for students and a great deal of other benefits. Not only would this idea provide financial benefits with transportation, school lunches, and staff costs, but also it could potentially increase attendance.…
