Could you live a normal day without any sort of technology? Technology influences our lives, and being without it would negatively impact people. This is why I think we should not take part in ‘Shut down Your Screen Week’. I assert this because taking part would only negatively impact our learning. This would happen because technology helps us think better and deeper, and it enables us to keep in touch with our friends. Some say it distracts us, but in reality, technology helps us to learn. Fortunately, access to the internet helps us think better and deeper. The internet allows your or others’ ideas to be shared. With the internet, you can access information from around the word in a single search. Also, retrieving the information yourself is more efficient than going to the location of the information. You can collect information from different sources and …show more content…
You can keep in touch with your friends even if you live in different states with the internet. When you meet with your friends, you relax. Relaxing when not at school can keep your mind off school, which can help you focus during school. In an article by Matt Richtel, it says “Stress hormones have been shown to reduce short term memory”. This means that if you don’t relax, you will not remember topics in school as well as you normally would, so it is good to relax once in a while. Talking with your friends can help you get different perspectives on topics such as current events and other topics. Your friends most likely will have something different to say because they live differently than you. They also might have different perspective not just for ideas but for ways of doing something. These ways could be more efficient than your old

Do you believe google is making us stupid? According to Nicholas Carr’s essay “Is Google Making Us Stupid” as the internet becomes our main source of information it is affecting the way we read books and other long narratives, he also believes we are becoming more distracted. At the beginning of the essay Carr compares the way he feels to a scene from a film called “A Space Odyssey”; he states, “I’ve had an uncomfortable sense that someone, or something, has been tinkering with my brain” (313). One reason Carr is wrong is because many people believe using google in the proper way and using it when it is necessary can be quite beneficial, the internet helps us learn many things and it educates us in many ways.…

The internet attracts students, teachers, researchers, and the average individual interested in the online community, but is the internet helpful –or hurtful? Nicholas Carr in his essay “Hal and Me” argues that, “The deep reading that used to come naturally has become a struggle” in result of the internet (Carr, 13). Although Carr is correct, the internet can encourage a laziness in regards to deeper reading and a resentment towards focusing for long periods of time, but the internet is a tool, and the user dictates the usefulness of that tool. If used the right way, the World Wide Web, through its ability to present thousands of databases in the safety of your home, can aid in a student’s academic career, and not kill their ability to concentrate. Nicholas Carr says, “Once I was a scuba diver in the sea of words now I zip along the surface like a guy on a Jet Ski” (Carr, 14) in a sense, the…

For example, I typed in “legalising assisted suicide” and I found various results on websites such as the NHS website which informed me on what assisted suicide is and the laws on assisted suicide.
