Tobacco There are 1,300 deaths from smoking and exposure to secondhand smoking everyday in the United States. Cigarettes are made of a leafy plant called tobacco, which is grown around the world. It is sold in grocery stores, supermarkets, vending machines, liquor stores, and so many other places that it is so easy for people to access it. Making it even more dangerous than it already is, with causing diseases, conditions, and even death because it is so addictive. Tobacco should be illegal because it’s addictive, affects a person’s health, and shortens life spans. Many people smoke when they feel stressed because it helps them cope with stress. The nicotine in the tobacco is drug that alters a persons mood, and it makes the affects of stress less severe. When the nicotine goes to the brain is releases chemical called Dopamine and it causes a sense of calmness, then your body craves for the drug more. That is all an illusion when it gives a calm feeling and people think you releasing stress, your really putting more stress onto your body. By, the blood pressure and heart rate increasing, muscles becoming tense, the blood vessels contrict, and less oxygen is avabiable for the brain and the body. Tobacco is dangerous in so many ways to Americans but it has a relationship with our government. On average, there was $52.6 billion spent on tobacco products in 1997 like cigarettes, cigars, and pipes, reason being because it is so addictive people crave more of it. This cost soon went up in 1998 when $59.3 billion was spent on tobacco. In fact, tobacco is 3% of sales in supermarkets, 10% for vending machines, and 8% for liquor store sales (Gale). The tobacco companies spend billions of dollars on advertising to get this kind of result of tobacco
