Schools began to adopt a dress code in 1972. The first schools to implement a policy were in the state of Maryland and in Washington, D.C. Many Catholic schools already wore uniforms and public schools that adopted the policy thought it would help change the student’s behaviors and later noted “No improvements were observed.” Students clash with schools to this day when trying to create a dress code. They are not in support of uniforms stating, “We like to choose what we want to wear”.

If students have uniforms and someone comes into the school with a gun and is roaming the halls, you can easily identify them because they are not in uniform. Uniforms can also protect the schools from people outside of the school. The cops can also help by catching the intruders and taking them to jail. Public schools should require uniforms for this reason “infringe upon students.”
A lot of students lack focus in school. Without uniforms students are checking out what their friends are wearing, and some outfits can be distracting.
