Kids these days are having trouble with getting assignments turned in on time and getting good grades. Learning, I can say, is very difficult when kids don’t get enuf, or any sleep because they are confused on homework, or have after school activities. In “Should School Start Later” it states that “Studies show that well-rested teens get better grades, have higher standardized test scores, and miss fewer days of school.” This shows that if our school starts later, all those kids who get poor grades will step it up because they had their good night

(Sleep in America, 2006) Falling asleep in the classroom has an obvious link to poorer grades. In the article, Fox argues that schools need to start later, and she discusses the effects from lack of sleep. She cites that “the average start time is 8:03.” Students--especially teenagers--have problems getting the recommended amount of eight to ten hours of sleep. Changing School Starting Times When schools have delayed the start of the school day, communities have seen reduced tardiness, sleeping in class, and car crash rates, as well as improved attendance, graduation rates, and standard test scores. Some schools start their school day at ridiculously early hours and not only do the students hate it, but it is extremely unhealthy for them as well. Schools should delay their starting time to at least 9am rather than 7am. This will cause a skyrocketing increase in the student production because they are not sleep deprived. Students will also be able to get their daily morning nutrition because they have more time to actually sit down and have a nutritious breakfast.…
