Death Penalty is an option used around the world for people who commit crimes. There are different laws in each state regarding the death penalty. Throughout the years, the rates of deaths continue to decrease. This is because there is no scientific evidence showing death penalty reduces crime rates. The death penalty is very controversial in many different ways. Some say the death penalty goes against two very important human rights. The right to live and the right to live free from torture are abused here.
There are many different types of executions. For example, there’s beheading, electrocution, hanging, lethal injection, and shooting in the back of the head. Majority of these ways are considered to be very inhumane and forms of torture. In the country of China, they hold their execution numbers classified. Excluding china, one thousand thirty two people were executed in 2016. (Masci 2). Years ago, the death penalty was abolished for many different reasons. It was later brought back. By the end of 2016, one hundred and four countries completely abolished the death penalty.
Often times, the death penalty is thought to go against many racial groups. This causes many disputes throughout the countries. Some studies have shown the different statistical numbers of races being executed. One study showed that whites were the largest group being executed.(Reuters 4).
