Persuasive Essay: Pit Bulls Should Be Banned

I’m opposed to ban any breed of dogs, including the pit bull because all dogs have the capability to be aggressive if trained too. People think certain breeds of dogs like the pit bull should be banned because some have been attacking people and have caused several deaths.
Pit bulls have been vilified in the media for many years. This has caused some localities to ban this type of dog from certain towns. What some people don’t know is that a pit bull is not a breed of dog. Instead, it is a term used to describe several breeds of dogs including the American Staffordshire Terrier, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, The English bull Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier. There are many different types of pit bull dogs. Pit bull dogs had

A local child had been mauled to death by his family dog, a pit-bull. The attack enraged the community and drove the local government to ban pit-bulls from the city. Several days after the boy’s death, details about the events leading up to the attack quietly emerged on the back pages of local newspapers. The “family dog” actually belonged to someone else; a neighborhood teenager had stolen the male pit-bull a month earlier from its owner’s backyard. There was speculation that the teen may have abused the pit bull in hopes of turning him into a fighting dog. The teenager feared being caught, so he offered the dog for sale on the street. The victim’s father bought the dog and took him home to mate with his female pit bull, keeping both dogs chained in the family’s yard. One day, the boy wandered near the chained dogs while the female was in heat; the male dog attacked and killed him. The dog had been with the family for less than two weeks. When the rightful owner was reunited with his dog, he noted that the pit bull looked much thinner and was in very poor health. The debate over pit bulls in America is a heated …show more content…
Gangs in particular have pit bulls as guard dogs and they train their dogs to be mean and to attack. Does anyone ever stop and think that these dogs can get out of the owners house who doesn’t care about the dog and go attack people, or if the owner ends up selling the dog. Every day many dogs are put down because dogs have been attacking humans, and of course everyone wants to blame the dog. People need to see that the owner is to blame for not disciplining the dog right. Del Crookes states “nearly 5,000 dogs have been seized by the police in the last three years because they’re suspected of being a banned breed.” In 1987 in California, a pit bull guarding a marijuana crop mauled and killed a two year old boy. Because of this many people started ranting about how you should beware of pit bulls, and that’s where I see it wrong. It wasn’t the pit bulls fault that his owner was a bad person being a drug dealer and all. Del Crooke states “The Dangerous Dogs Act out laws breeds which are considered aggressive, like pit bull terriers.” The pit bull was trained to bite whoever, and it should be the owner who gets in trouble for being a horrible owner and putting peoples life at risk by raising the dog to be that way. The dogs are the ones who get killed when

One reason pit bulls should not be banned is that they are not that threatening. An example of this is that Pit-bull attacks are sometimes over reported by the media. In The Media and the Pit-bull the article states,”they will not cover a dog attack unless the situation involves a pit bull.” Usually the media keeps quiet when a cuter dog attacks someone. The media and the Pit Bull also states,”The media intentionally over-reports incidents involving pit bulls.”…

He speaks about his pit bull attacking another dog, and then as a natural instinct it bit the owner of the other dog. He was looking back on the past history with his pit bull Dexter, noticing two abandonments and not great previous owners. There are many people that believe the myths that are out in the world about Pit Bulls but will never actually do any research to dig deeper to learn about them. If these dogs were so vicious we wouldn’t be using them as service dogs or even as police dogs. People are a reason Pit Bulls are seen as vicious people teach them to be like that, We also have people that own apartment complexes or even people that own deed restricting housing think Pitbulls are very bad and we can’t even get insurance on our dogs if we have Pitbulls so if something were to happen and a Pitbull bit another dog they would have to pay money out of there pocket if there was any injuries and in the end they would have to put that Pitbull down because of that. I hope this essay can change at least change the way people view Pitbulls and for them to actually dig deeper and do some research about these dogs.…

Most myths regarding pit bulls are based in fear, and almost all of them are proven fallacies. Pit bulls are not the only breed of dog that can have negative, aggressive tendencies based on its upbringing and other circumstances, but certainly an attack on an animal or a person by a pit bull is much more likely to be reported on the news, resulting in the creation of a bad reputation for pit bulls everywhere. Unfortunately, it is this belief that has caused some areas to put out bans on the entire breed. Not until people realize that any animal, even a pit bull, can be a very gentle, kind-hearted partner for life simply by raising the animal in the correct way, will pit bulls finally be rid of the negative and unfair reputation surrounding their…

Fear drives the irrational fear that all pit bulls are dangerous and should be banned. It is wrong to kill dogs just for being a certain type of breed. People often claim their dog was wrongfully put to death. It was on the Nashville news the other day that a man’s dog was shot by a police officer just because he was a pit bull. The dog was not attacking or attempting to bite the officer, just barking.…

If Pit Bulls were so vicious why did parents trust them so much. Some Pit Bulls today are still treated poorly and forced into dog fighting by their owners and some of their dogs get very injured. They treat their dogs to become aggressive and the problem is we are using Pit Bulls for harm instead of good and I think that is why so people are afraid of Pit Bulls as being aggressive when really some of them are not. Many people believe that the physical characteristic of a Pit Bull can determine if the dog is vicious or aggressive.…

Under breed laws, dogs are not assessed individually, but are stereotyped as a whole as dangerous. Ontario, Canada passed a breed ban that banned pit bulls, even though statistics showed that German Shepherds held the top spot for bites. Also, as I mentioned above, studies done on a number of household breeds revealed that small, toy sized dogs were among the top seven breeds showing owner directed aggression. A blanket ban on one specific type of dog will not eliminate a dog aggression problem. Informed, responsible and in control owners are the key to public safety from dangerous dogs.…

If Bulldogs originally were bred for being vicious animals, why aren’t they getting the bad rap that Pit bulls do? Doing some research, I had found that an entire website was dedicated to Pitbull’s and their dangerous behaviors. “In the 12-year period of 2005 through 2016, canines killed 392 Americans. Pit bulls contributed to 65% (254) of these deaths.…

The reason a lot of bad people used these dogs is because they 're so loyal and they want to please their owner, so if the owner says to do something or the dog is trained a certain way, it 's going to do it. This is another reason these dogs are feared . What a lot of people hear is that Pit Bulls are born and meant to be fighting dogs and because of all media these myths spread real quick, and then you have this breed that is being bred all around the world and used for the wrong things. Truth be told, this is not what Pits are meant for, according to “Pitbull Myths”, “This breed is routinely used for: obedience trialing, conformation showing, weight pull, Schutzhund (a German sport which requires dogs to perform in obedience, tracking and protection phases of a competition), agility, and have even been known to…
