Banning of Pit Bulls Dogs have different personalities and temperaments, just like humans do. A dog's breed does not determine their personality, just like a human’s race does not determine their personality. Pit bulls are banned in many different cities because they are known for fighting and biting. What many people do not know, though, is that a dog is taught to be mean. It does not matter if it is a Chihuahua or if it is a pit bull, they can be taught to fight, or they can be taught to be a service animal. There should never be a ban on any breed of dog, whether it is a golden retriever or if it is a pit bull. Breed specific legislation, or BSL, is the term for laws that either regulate or ban certain dog breeds in an effort to decrease …show more content…
According to PETA, “some dogfighters train dogs by forcing them to tread water in pools; run on a treadmill while a caged rabbit, cat, chicken, or other terrified animal is dangled in front of them; or hang on with their jaws while dangling from a chain baited with meat”. some of them include: being forced to tread water, being put on a treadmill with a rabbit, chicken, or cat is dangled in front of them, or hanging on with their jaws while there is meat dangling on the chain. Other tactics to help their dog win are to inject them with steroids, and cut off their ears so other dogs cannot hold on. Another way to encourage aggression is to starve the dogs, keep them penned or chained on a really heavy chain. These dogs have no human contact other than when they are being trained. When dogs are no longer able to fight, they are either killed in a very inhumane manner, or used as a bait dog. Some of those ways are to wet them down and electrocute them, hanged, beaten, shot, or drowned. If the dogs win, they are forced to fight again and again. If it is a male, they are used as a stud to make puppies that could be a fighter just like them. Females are strapped down so that they are not able to move while the male impregnates them. There are a lot of different factors that go into dog fighting that make it

One reason pit bulls should not be banned is that they are not that threatening. An example of this is that Pit-bull attacks are sometimes over reported by the media. In The Media and the Pit-bull the article states,”they will not cover a dog attack unless the situation involves a pit bull.” Usually the media keeps quiet when a cuter dog attacks someone. The media and the Pit Bull also states,”The media intentionally over-reports incidents involving pit bulls.”…

While recently looking up Canadian laws, Animal Rights popped up and seemed very intriguing. From thereon, the Dog Owners Liability Act surfaced and it states “The owner of a dog is liable for damages resulting from a bite or attack by the dog on another person or domestic animal.” This law does make sense that the owner should take the responsibility of their dog because they were the ones who raised the dog to be the way it is but the one sub issue found with this law is the Pit Bull Ban. The total ban on the Pit Bull breed in Ontario is unacceptable because the government shouldn’t be targeting just the one breed because of the actions of several individual dogs, Pit Bulls shouldn’t be treated differently from other breeds, and if the government is already banning a whole breed, what is going to stop them from banning a bunch of other breeds that have the same attack numbers. Throughout this essay, it will be proven that the total ban of Pit Bulls is ridiculous and the law should be revoked.…

The problem is also local and immediate, as Denver, Colorado, has a city ordinance that bans the ownership of pit bulls, a ban that only has a basis in stereotypes and not in reality. As a breed, pit bulls should not be banned, as their stereotyped behavior is not directly related to their disposition as a breed, and measures can be taken by human owners to ensure that they are raised to be well behaved. CAUSES Pit bull behavior is, for the most part, dictated by factors outside of their genetics, and pit bulls begin their development at conception and…

Why BSL is BS When you hear the word Pitbull you probably either think of a violent and ferocious dog or you think of music sensation, Mr. Worldwide. Unfortunately, the Pitbull dog has been seen as a dangerous breed for a long time. Because of this, a Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) has been set in several states. The media is what gave pitbulls such a bad reputation. I believe that if there is anyone to blame about the behavior of ANY kind of dog, it would be the owner. It is the owner’s responsibility to take full responsibility of any type of animal they might have. Just like any other pet, pitbulls need the love, care, and respect as well. If you are someone who are against having pit bulls as pets, you’ve probably never experienced having one.…

Many home owners own dogs, and consider their dog a part of their family. The governments of some states are trying to force some of dogs to be euthanized because they are a “dangerous dog” breed, and pit bulls are considered the worst of them. However, pit bulls are a loyal breed and they definitely should not be banned from society, when they are simply mistreated and given a bad stigma. This bad stigma is that pit bulls are an aggressive dog breed due to the sudden negative media attention pit bulls have received in the past few years. According to the ASPCA, pit bulls so called aggression stems directly from the loyalty a pit bull has for its owner.…

Pit Bulls Should Not Be Banned Pit bulls are often called violent dogs. They are stigmatized as the breed often known as fighting dogs. These dogs are singled out to be restrained or banned and are put to death just for their breed. In Lafayette, Louisiana, two men were arrested for dog fighting and fifty-seven pit bulls were confiscated. Some of the confiscated dogs had scars from fighting, and just because of the breed’s reputation, all of the dogs were considered dangerous.…

This restriction on pit bulls is called Breed-Specific Legislation, or BSL. There are “about 200 cities and towns… [that] restrict or prohibit ownership of certain breeds of dogs” (Mott). This new epidemic of pit bull attacks has caused certain cities to ban the ownership of them. Apparently, “in Tijeras, New Mexico, there is a pit bull ban that says animal controllers can kill a pit bull on sight without talking to the owner”(Bastian).…
