A pressing topic of this years presidential debate is women’s rights, specifically regarding a woman’s right to choose to have an abortion. This is a very sensitive and important issue because it is considered to be an ethical dilemma. According to the data world bank, 50.4% of the united states population is made up of women. One out of two people in this country are directly affected by the decisions made by our nation regarding this matter. There is much discussion on where the line is draw relating to when a child is considered a life. Some would argue that the very moment of conception as a zygote, others say when a heart beat is heard, and there are those who claim there is no life until the unborn child takes it first breath of air.

This topic of discussion will have a lasting impact not only for the women of this nation, but for everyone else living in the United States. Education and awareness of contraceptives, STDs, and reproductive rights are tremendously important. Planned parenthood provides this kind of information and so much more to the people in their communities. Planned parenthood does more besides perform abortions everyday. According to the planned parenthood website, they offer cancer screenings, provide contraceptives, and education about women's health care rights. Also, planned parenthood offers services to men such as colon, prostate, and testicular cancer screenings, STD testing and treatment, general healthcare and routine physical exams, and various other screenings as well. The republican party doesn’t realize that primary prevention starts from proper education on these health issues. Health care clinics such as planned parenthood should remain open for these reasons aforementioned. Granting women the right to choose to have an abortion can forever change the lives of the woman and her family. A woman might get pregnant unintentionally and if she feels that she could not provide a nurturing and stable life for a child, she should be able to make that choice and not have to live in fear, feel criticized or humiliated, or seek out an illegal
