With school having many students but not very many teachers classes are skewed beyond belief. Students do not get to pick their courses but are randomly assigned. This means if a student is interested in let’s say hairdressing and she gets put in a sewing class she is stuck in that sewing class. So students that are qualified to take an AP course may not be able to be put in those classes because they are randomly assigned and that means some kids are destined to fail if they are not up to AP standards and are put in an AP course. In addition, if students do not have internet or a place to study they have only a half hour after school to work in the library.…

High School Sports Should high schools be all about education, and grades? I couldn’t see myself getting up in the morning excited to learn trigonometry. Let alone be happy in a place like my school. My point would be that I only come to school because I find motivation in the sports that this school has to offer. I tell myself I have to turn my homework in, or I need to read this page, and study so I can pass my test to play Friday night.…

Have you ever not finished your homework and need more time at school that’s what study hall would do for us kids? Currently in Foley Intermediate school, we have no study hall for seventh and eighth graders because of this we need to take an elective that we don't enjoy. The rule is we must take seven classes and at least one of them has to be an art or a music class. If we add this elective we would need to have supervisors with us in this class and we would need to have a place to have study hall. Such as a room or even the cafeteria.…

A few reasons why more electives may be a terrible idea, students could possibly be more distracted than focused in the elective, having too many elective teachers could cost a lot more money, and finally some electives are not essential to have in life, so you could probably fund the core classes to make them better instead of getting more electives. An example of students being distracted is that they joined an elective just to chat with their friends which normally happens in most cases or they don’t care enough to get their work done and play on their phones. One more example of why some electives are not necessary in life, Spanish for example is it important if I learn another language; not really it only helps if I plan on going to foreign areas that speak Spanish. The same thing can be applied to all electives that teach a specific language. Those are some reasons why electives could be potentially a terrible…

What do electives do for your child when you send them to school? NOTHING!!! When you send your kids to school in the morning all they do is there 3 main core classes and then they got to electives. Throughout four years of high school many students complete graduation requirements and course credits by or before senior year. As a teacher, my belief is that students be taught the importance of mathematics in the daily life. I also stand firm that students should also be taught important life lessons that relate to how to succeed and prepare for the future. I think that it is inevitable that students be taught basic curriculum in mathematics. I agree that concepts of Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics be taught but I also think that students should be taught mathematics that deals with finances earlier then the college level. Everyone I let know says I am crazy for going into Math education.…
