Evaluating ourselves is not an easy thing to do. We have trouble being truthful about ourselves because we are human. We tend to block out what we do not think is true about ourselves. On a day-to-day life as a white, heterosexual, middle class women with the full ability to do things, I do experience some privilege in my day-to-day life. However, I am also oppressed based on my gender and age. My privileges are something that others may need to battle with every day. White privilege is still a prominent part of the world today. White privilege is when someone’s white skin color gives them unearned advantages over other races (Blaine, 2012, Understanding). Since I am white, I have an automatic privilege for me in my day-to-day life. I don’t get judged daily about my race. Being white has allowed me to succeed more than someone who is black, Asian, or other races. The United States has played a part on making citizens think the predominant race is white. There are so many races and ethnicities in the USA. We are a melting pot in the United States. But with this belief that whites are the dominant race it …show more content…

When I go out with my boyfriend I don’t get judged for holding his hand, kissing him, hugging him, or anything else couples do. Someone who is a homosexual woman may not have this luxury. When a homosexual couple are walking around town or the mall people assume they are platonic friends when that is not the case. Something so small can have a big impact on the relationship along as the individual. People today are afraid to open about their sexual orientation because they don’t want to feel judged by others (Blaine, 2012, Introduction). Her main focus is on “White Privilege” and how white people are unacknowledged that they have privileges that are unearned privilege, and that African American does not have. White privilege is hard to see for many white people who were lead to believe that whites are superior with access to many resources than African Americans. Peggy McIntosh essay mentions that many white people have a hard time acknowledging or know that they have unearned white privileges.…

McIntosh and Martin both have similar articles on white privilege; McIntosh believes white privilege is something that is taught within the white community by parents, teachers, and their surroundings. The theme of whiteness is one that is carried throughout Wise’s book and parallels much of what is mentioned in the article from RTC “Possessive Investment in Whiteness: Racialized Social Democracy” by author George Lipsitz. Lipsitz discusses the concept of whiteness and how it is abundant in the culture of the American society. He states, “…whiteness never has to speak its name, never has to acknowledge its role as an organizing principle in social and cultural relations” (Lipsitz 139). Lipsitz goes on to explain the foundational structure that this country was built on, that from the very beginning, America has been systematically set up to preserve and invest in whiteness. From slavery, to social and federal programs, to our educational and banking systems, everything has been established for the sole purpose of enhancing the lives of whites.…

In my opinion I think that white people get way more opportunities and much more of a free pass than those in the minority. The concept of privilege highlights the fact that systems of inequality like racism, sexism, homophobia, cissexism, classism, etc. are not just problems for those who are oppressed.…

The article “White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack” was written to inform the reader about white privilege and male privilege. It states that men necessarily do not realize that they hold an advantage over women just as though whites do not always realize they are more privileged than blacks. The author Peggy McIntosh thoroughly describes that just by being born with white skin, you automatically are at an advantage over someone who was not born white. She also explains that men do in fact recognize women’s status in the world and will do certain things to improve it. However, they are unwilling to do anything to lessen their own privilege.…

To acknowledge a superior advantage is the first step to changing the world. Majority of white people seem surprised at the fact that there is still a divide between races in modern times. They’ve taken the pretentious viewpoint of claiming that they don’t ‘see race’ that they just ‘the person’ and while that might be what most activists are striving towards in modern times, all that really means is that they are benefiting from the privileges of being white. It is almost impossible to relate to someone who is struggling because of their skin color when the privileged have never had to face such unfair and unjust effects because of the way they look. I am white, I am female, and those are facts.…

Saying that white privilege doesn't exist is bullshit. I learned that real quick growing up in Arizona with my dad. My dad is brown and fits the 'Mexican' stereotype profile, meanwhile I took more of the white features from my mom's side. Most white people don't give me shit like they do with my dad and that has nothing to do with money and all to do with race. People are constantly questioning his legal status or making racist remarks towards him.…

White privilege is a form of social privileges that solely benefits white people and excludes people of color. For some apparent reason many people become blinded, ignorant, and oblivious when white privilege becomes the topic of conversation. “White Privilege is the other side of racism” (Rothenberg, 53). Although we live in a country where we are constantly told all men are created equal, there is an overt contradiction to the ideology simply because of conspicuous white privileges.…

White privilege is ignored by whites in society because we live in a nation of white dominance. Whites most often ignore the fact that blacks and other minorities do not enjoy these advantages. McIntosh defines white privilege as the many advantages white people enjoy, often seen as normal, and are largely unnoticed by society. Peggy McIntosh describes white privilege as “an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks. ”(Calihealth).…
