Volunteering and helping others when they are in need has been around since the making of the earth. Humans aren’t even the only creatures that help one another when necessary. With many of us helping others in some way, there is still a large need for help in almost every corner of the earth. Creating a way in which everyone volunteers within the U.S. is a wonderful way to make sure everyone and everything (i.e. animals, the planet) are taken care of. With excuses coming from everywhere it would be slightly hard to get the system going, but it would easily help our planet as a whole. There are ways to allow all individuals to do something they are interested in and once the system truly gets going it will show that mandating volunteer work is a considerable, yet important step to take.
Like every idea out there, there are some drawbacks of making people volunteer. To start off, people don’t like change. To some we are all freedom and filled with hope, but to others we can’t get anything together. If we found a way to get everyone in our country to do something for it, for others, and for the world, we then could shake the whole world. After setting up and pulling off something this enormous, others will want to watch us and know how we do it. But, we will have to watch those other countries because some have shown great ideas when it comes to their people doing service. In Nigeria college graduates under 30 have a one year commitment program where they have to work outside of their home states. “Without the program, many areas would lack teachers, engineers, doctors, pharmacists and accountants” (Lee-St. John).
