The act of violence is a force that manifests itself within a human being, able to cause harm to individuals by using aggression, which can be presented as; verbal, physical, psychological, and emotional. Violence in general is a serious problem ever-increasing due to it is always nurtured and encouraged in our society by various methods that one can’t easily recognize because it is well structured to deliver violence in a way that seems fun, innocent, and creative. Violence being an aggressive behavior that can lead to extreme measures, gives me certainty of my opposition as to why I object such intensity of being able to be cruel, therefore; something must be done and taken to action to at least diminish these brutalities. Nowadays, I do believe that brutality has been instilled in our society through video games, music videos, news, and television. For example, to name a few T.V shows that I consider to be violent are; Sponge Bob Square Pants, Tom & Jerry, and The Simpsons. However, as I stated, I do believe that there is a way to stop violence in this American society, it will take a lot of effort to those who are already contaminated, but they can be renovated to do good and be part of this new society of non-violence, which is why I strongly consider this atrocity of violence to be resembled as a contagious virus. It takes courage and bravery to do a self-recognition of your acts and accept that you were inhuman and viciousness, but most importantly to never limit yourself from asking for help and guidance because violence can be classified under several types of aggressiveness, therefore; is it essential to determine under which category you are

Now that I am a resident in the Carbondale community, it is vital that I should be concerned with my personal safety. Being a student enrolled at the University of Southern Illinois-Carbondale, I feel that I should be highly concerned with the safety of fellow members of the community as well. I am also in discomfort on the fact that you have stated it is “strangely comforting knowing the violence is home grown.” I’d like to question, how are you, let alone anyone semi-relaxed with violence? I am not pleased or content knowing that you are moderately comfortable knowing that violence is not beginning here, but targets and shooting occurrences continue to increase intensely in the community.…

Cure Violence www.cureviolence.org Cure Violence is an organization founded by epidemiologist Gary Slutkin. Dr. Slutkin spent a decade in underdeveloped countries, fighting epidemic diseases. When he returned to the US, he’d all but forgotten what it was like to have running water, and adjustable temperature in the home. He also had no news of the US, so he found it both dismaying and compelling to hear about the rampant violence in some parts of the US, most especially in Chicago, Illinois. As a result, Dr. Slutkin began researching the violence problem in the same way that he tracked infectious diseases in those other countries, and he found that the trajectories were the same.…

Violence can be described as the intent to hurt or damage something or someone, which can be done in a number of ways. The group of writings that I chose was under the title of “Cultures of Violence”, and I believe that this heading efficaciously describes the two essays within it. However, I feel that On War is better able to effectively convey its purpose. The purpose of On War by James Boswell was to tell his personal thought on the irrationality of war.…
