The stony objects located outside the main asteroid belt are called Trojan asteroids. They are named after past warriors of the Trojan/Greek war. Asteroids located 60 degrees ahead of Jupiter are named after Greek heroes, and those 60 degrees behind are named after the heroes of Troy. These remnants of original planetary formations, are too small for gravity to form them into a planet, and in turn, Trojan asteroids became trapped in celestial pockets. The gravitational pull of Jupiter and the Sun, restrain these vulnerable objects into the Lagrangian points along Jupiter’s orbit. Providing a conducive atmosphere where they remain.
