We also plan to pass legislation for improving safety and health standards, increasing federal control over taxing commerce among states, the prohibition of child labor, minimum wage standards, establishing an eight-hour workday and a day a rest out of seven for workers, full reports on accidents and disease, and inspection of labor products. We favor the unions and wish to protect their interest. And we will do so by establishing the Department of Labor. Business corporations, however, have abused their power of monopolies. We believe that the government should regulate the practice of businesses, as few men in power have abused it. We plan to balance public interest and corporate interest by establishing a commission to attack unfair competition and special privilege and to strengthen the Sherman Antitrust
