“The Destructors” Persuasive Essay Post Blitz bombing in London of 1940, birthed a whole new generation of people who became immune to the sight of destruction as it was all around them and normal to see. In “The Destructors” by Graham Greene, Trevor is unjustified in destroying Old Misery’s house based on the reader's perspective. Trevor is clearly unjustified in him destroying the house because Old Misery was never mean to them, but only was nice to trevor, and he had no valid reasoning to destroy the house. Throughout the story there were many cases where Old misery was being nice like when he offered them chocolates, and even let trevor tour the house. Old Misery was nice enough to let trevor see the house for example he said “I wanted to see the house… He showed it to me” (Greene 51). At anytime Old Misery could have said no, but out of the kindness in his heart he agreed to let him see the house. Also when Old Misery saw the gang playing in the parking lot, and he said “I got some chocolates… Here you are” (Greene 50). That just shows even more how nice and harmless Old Misery was, but Trevor had other plans to hurt him even though Old Misery always minded his own business, and was very kind to them. In our society today it is only justified if …show more content…
When he first introduced the plan of destroying the house and leaving nothing was already clearly unjustified when he never shared any concrete reasoning on why he was going to do it. With Old Misery’s constant kindness to T should have never even done anything to him, plus Trevor’s extreme plan even made things worse. Although Trevor might not have thought of the plan as “extreme” the gang were astonished by the destruction T wanted to do. Even though it was never clearly stated we can tell he wanted to pin his past trauma on someone else because it was causing him too much emotional

Freedom of speech has always been a topic of conversation on whether or not we really have it, or it’s portrayed like we do so the American people can be content. There is plenty of proof on the fact that our freedom of speech is actually being taken away from us. Even now as our generation is more open minded, it doesn’t mean that we allow for anyone to have what they think is right, heard. Then whenever we question that our right is being taken away, we are meant with critiques that we are just babies and Liberal snowflakes that don’t really know what it is to not have freedom of speech. There are cases like with what happened with the San Francisco 49ers quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, which was taking a stand by kneeling during the national anthem as a way to protest against…

In many countries, hate speech has had laws set against it because they believe that it leads to violence, but in the United States it is considered a form of free speech so it is allowed with no limits. As part of the Constitution, freedom of speech is sometimes used so that people are allowed to express their opinions and say as they pleased. Many Americans want to ban hate speech from being a part of the First Amendment because they believe that it causes and provokes violence against others. It results in approximately four thousand six hundred deaths each year, but even though mental health administrators suggested widespread screening for suicides and mental illness for students in 2003 (Freidman), “only less than two percent of schools have a mental health screening program” (Briggs). All schools should offer mental health screenings for its students as it can help professionals and parents in the early identification of teens at risk for depression and suicidal impulses because unless there is more awareness and prevention, suicide will carry on to take the lives of the young. All schools are in a significant position to…
