Truth is Yes, they hurt but they protect you and the people around you from harmful diseases, Take this into thought, You getting vaccinated prevents you spedding that disease to other people and protects your self making a two way benefit for yourself and those who are not vaccinated for it making it one of the major benefits for vaccinating. Like stated earlier if you are not vaccinated but your friend is and he goes to say to a country by the equator he cannot bring back say west nile flue as long as he is vaccinated.
