Persuasive Essay On Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for all of the wonderful people in one’s life. Thanksgiving shouldn’t be ephemeral because it’s a long celebration with loved ones surrounding you. Before every meal, my grandfather prays no malice upon us for the rest of our lives. For that moment in time, it feels as if God is rinsing the evil away because of my grandpa’s prayer. The feast isn’t opulence but that doesn’t matter because we don’t need luxurious things. Thanksgiving can get a little awkward when your mom gives you a haughty glare when reaching for another serving. The disdained look will make your appetite disappear. Repetitive as the questions can be, someone will always ask how you are flourishing and the answer will always be the same, “I am growing up and I’m doing very well.” Many fun games are played where the family members can compete head to head. …show more content…

All families have their difficulties, some more than others, and some different, but in my case I consider my family to be fairly ordinary. The movie Parenthood is a great example of how four contrasting families, all related, can be completely different. The movie can fully describe a lot of typical families around the world, I didn’t feel that my family related to any of the families in the movie; I felt that there was a message that related to my family. One message in the movie that stood out to me was: no matter the rough patch the families go through, they always come back together. Another message was: no matter how different the families were, they always were similar in some way.…

Food: A Reader for Writers: “The Gastronomical Me,” An Excerpt by M.F.K. Fisher To demonstrate the indication of the time period referred to by the author: “Women in those days, made much more of a ritual of their household duties than they do now. 600 million pounds of candy are bought every year for Halloween, which totals up to a whopping 1.9 billion dollars. Kids around the world are enjoying the fun of it yearly, which is great in my opinion. Even though nearly everyone loves Halloween, there are still some flaws I’ve seen while trick or treating, or in the news. Whether it is wasting candy, lacing it with drugs, or unenthusiastic people, I think we need to change it. If I could change something in the world, it would be the way we give out and eat candy for Halloween.…

Last November, a week before Thanksgiving, I was listening to the morning radio talk show The Woody Show and the hosts were talking about how excited they were for the Thanksgiving feast. They all went around and shared what was their perfect meal for that day. It ranged from fried turkey, to stuffing, cornbread, green bean casserole, and towards the end the hosts argued about cranberry sauce. However, they all agreed that pumpkin pie was essential to the perfect meal. I found it very interesting that while they argued about the way the meal was executed, they all agreed on the basic components to the meal-I didn’t.…

Thanksgiving dinner in my family is a big deal all our family and friends gather around to celebrate. There is always plenty of food, drinks, music and laughter. My family is loud, crazy and not afraid to voice their opinions so there is always drama at every dinner or family event. I chose to write on this because I never payed attention to detail or interactions at these dinners like why the women cook? Or why it is important that we are all together.…

To whom this may concern, Some people may feel as if Black Friday happening on Thursday isn’t a huge controversy, but the majority of people believe it is. It has been an American tradition since 1975 and because of it being moved to the day of Thanksgiving a lot of people have seemed to forget the importance of Thanksgiving. That is why I believe all stores should hold off their Black Friday deals until Friday (5:00am). I believe stores should hold off on Black Friday because it takes time away from families. Last Thanksgiving, I invited all my closest friends and even my relatives. We all sat around the dining lit table with the smell of freshly baked pumpkin, spiced rolls and the decadent aroma of my mom's special stuffed turkey. The glaze on that turkey was too good for words, and when I mean ‘too good for words' I meant that I literally couldn't talk because I was stuffing my face. It had this beautiful brown color, a few charred areas, and a crispy crust with the slightest hint of lemon and honey. My favorite part of Thanksgiving was the spiced pumpkin cheesecake, which was my grandma's secret recipe.…
