Persuasive Essay On Thanksgiving Day

Improved Essays
Everyone has some of the favorite activities to do on Thanksgiving Day: watch a football game, view The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and take a nap after you unbutton and unzip after your turkey dinner.

I’m like to inspire you to turn off the television, computer, smartphone and iPad for at least part of the day and spend some real quality time with friends and family. You’ll have great fun doing it and the fond memories will last a lifetime.

This list incorporates both inside and outside activities in the event that weather plays a role in your selection. Keep in mind that almost everything listed can be adapted to either inside or outside with very few exceptions.

1. Take a Walk
Pick a destination that you and yours can all agree on. All you need is a pair of

Pick an Activity
Touch football, soccer, tag, hide-n-seek, etc. The idea here is to get outside with the family and do something that involves moving around and taking in healthy, fresh air.

3. Three Legged Races
You might also try a sack race or create an obstacle course for the family to run. Have some silly fun and prizes offer special privileges like the first place team doesn’t have to help with the Thanksgiving Day clean up or they get first dibs on the pumpkin pie.

4. Treasure Hunt
Make a simple and easy treasure map. There can be one overall prize or multiple prizes, just like an egg-hunt. Some prize ideas might be chocolate turkeys or a packet of coins or a gift certificate wrapped up in a box. Share your ideas with the family and decide on what the majority wants.

5. Board Games
Break out the games (if the weather is bad) that you’ve stored away since receiving last Christmas but haven’t played yet. Scrabble, Life, Monopoly, Cranium, Trivial Pursuit, Trouble, Chutes & Ladders, whatever! Have some great family fun, but don’t turn to your computer for these games.

6. Play Charades.
This doesn’t take much. Make your own rules as you go. Have fun inside or outside.

Have you ever wondered where your turkey came from when it comes down to sitting down for the Thanksgiving meal? Most people go to the store to buy their turkey but some go to the woods to get their animal. I have been turkey hunting since I was twelve years old and have spent many hours in preparation to be able to go out and hunt. Turkey hunting requires stealth and a lot of patience. After many years, I have gotten much better at hunting turkeys and have had many unsuccessful years hunting them.…

Growing up in Brooklyn, in the early 90’s was one of the best experiences in my life. I remember the ice cream trucks, corner stores, fire hydrates being opened for the kids especially when there was a block party but most of all, the unity of families and neighbors. Many people will say “Brooklyn, only the strong survive” and I have lived by that phrase my entire life. It showed me the beauty of living in one of the boroughs that makes up New York City and has taught me to be a strong person. It’s not made for the weak.…

Every year on Thanksgiving break I have gone to my grandparents house to stay for the week. For me this is important because my grandparents live a good ways away and I barely get to see them. This became a tradition when I moved away from where they live because that's when our other traditions ended like on wednesdays we used to meet somewhere and eat dinner but we can’t do that any more so we thought that Thanksgiving break is a good time to go see them because we have off school and they can get off work. The whole time we are up there we laugh cook and have fun together.…

I think you find many companies falling into the "riptide" of what Seth speaks of...heavily set on tasks and decisions...and waiting on initiation. More times than not, it is because the company has got too bureaucratic, or the leadership perpetuates a feeling of “don’t fail by trying something new.” In a recent position, we used to open up “idea” contest to the entire office and put a free lunch on the line for whomever came up with the best one. It is always interesting to hear the crazy, and totally random ideas, people come up with…and those are generally the ones that help drive the thinking behind the really amazing ideas.…
