In Florida, the government does not do nearly enough to discourage and prevent distracted driving. According to Distracted.gov, In 2014, "3,179 people were killed and 431,000 were injured in motor vehicle accidents involving distracted drivers. " This is an increase to the previous statistics in 2010 from the NHTSA, which stated that, in 2010, "3,092 people were killed in crashes involving distracted drivers and an estimated additional 416,000 were injured in motor vehicle accidents involving distracted drivers." In 2013, a law was issued to help discourage distracted driving as well as campaigns in 2011 and 2015, but to no avail. While others will argue that our government has done all it can to prevent the issue of distracted drivers, our citizens will continue to do.…

“Distracted driving has always been an issue with drivers, particularly young drivers, but has perhaps never had the attention it now currently receives. Almost daily, there are stories in the mass media about the destruction and death that has been caused by distracted driving” (Quisenberry, 2014, p. 303). Since texting and driving is receiving so much attention right now this is time to make sure something is done about and changes need to be made now. My plan to solve the texting and driving problem our nation is having is by informing drivers and future drivers just how dangerous texting and driving really is also I think our texting and driving laws need to be changed so that the consequences are a little harsher than they are now.…

Texting while driving has become a major issue in today’s society. Teens, even adults, have an addiction to their phone and can not put it down. Even though there has been a multitude of deaths due to texting and driving, it is evident that the laws against this are not effective at all. The laws are ineffective because it is very difficult for police to catch a person texting while driving, many drivers will still text even though it is highly prohibited, they will try to hide that they are texting, and drivers can be distracted by other applications on their smart phones. While there is plenty of evidence to show that distracted drivers are causing more and more traffic accidents, legislation has not shown to be an effective deterrent at…
