When I was twelve, my mother was killed by a distracted driver. The driver looked down at his phone to read a text and before he knew it, it was too late. Texting and driving is a major issue globally for young adults. It is the leading cause in car accidents and has killed thousands of people over the years. Texting and driving can easily be avoided, but still people continue to do it to this day. Even if one reads and text and not actually sends one, it is still putting oneself and others at risks. While driving, cell phones are a major distractions to the community. The temptations of cell phone are easily becoming more accessible to drivers and are frequently causing fatal accidents.

Although it is an easy distraction to give into, it is particularly important that young adults learn to do without. The man that killed my mother was twenty five at the time. The man ended up running a red light as he looked down at his phone to read a text. He hit my mother head on, and killed her instantly. But thinking about it now, it scares me that this could have been anyone of you in the situation. The man who hit my mother is still in jail paying time for the accident, but ever since, my family has been changed forever. Just graduated from college with his whole life planned out ahead of him, the young man must learn to face what he did for the rest of his life. In society, we hear many stories of people dying in car accidents caused by texting distractions. When most people hear these stories on T.V. or reading a newspaper or magazine, for the most part we ignore them because we think that an accident this bad could never happen to us. I believe young adults struggle the most with avoiding their phones while driving, but if society learns the dangers of texting and driving and hears my story, the amount of fatal accidents would be greatly reduced (Paragraph on
