Have you ever wondered why athletes in today’s society are more athletic then athletes in the past centuries? Well there’s an answer to that question, and it’s that athletes in today’s society are using performance-enhancing drugs such as steroids. Lets stop right there because not all athletes use these performance-enhancing drugs. Some reasons to the use of drugs like steroids are that athletes feel like they’re under pressure, they feel like they’re not as good at the sport they play, or they want to be just like their opponents that might be taking these drugs. Doping doesn’t have a place in sports. Yes drugs like steroids help you become stronger, faster, better and even a better competitor. Did you ever think about the negative consequences? Have you ever thought what will happen to you when you get older after taking steroids? Honestly do you even know what sportsmanship is, because if you do and you value it, you wouldn’t be taking these drugs. “They can cause cancer and strokes, stunt bone growth, and lead to aggression…. the more serious life threatening effects of steroid abuse are heart attacks, strokes and liver cancer”. According to Scott, are you willing to take these drugs and end up being sick and weak, as you get older and the possibility of dying young? Furthermore if you take these performance enhancing drugs and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) finds out you test positive for the drug, you will be eliminated and there is a sizable possibility of not playing for a long time. To add on, there is also a possibility of your whole team getting disqualified. Is it really worth it, no its not, when all it needs is just passion, hard dedication and belief in yourself.
