These effects can be drastic and sometimes irreversible, therefore more stricter policies need to be reinstated to prevent these effects from even happening. In an attempt to decrease the amount of cases regarding steroid use, and their side effects, various drug testing policies have been created to catch those who have used or abused steroids.
In professional and amateur sports, drug testing athletes has become more and more common. In the NCAA, participating athletes are required to sign a consent form granting rights to be drug tested at any given time under any suspicion. “The NCAA established its own drug testing program in 1986 and comprehensively tests for both illegal street drugs and performance- enhancing drugs” (Drugs and Tests). Among professional sports, policies are similar, but athletes are required to sign a CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement). One of the biggest disadvantages among professional sports is that there is no uniform guideline followed by professional leagues as a whole.
