There has been bad blood between soccer and football fans for many years. Football and soccer are two of the most popular sports in the world. Due to these sports being so popular, some fans are very passionate about the teams of these sports. The passionate fans of these two sports often conflict and disagree with each other, no matter where they live. While most fans of soccer are spread throughout the world and believe that soccer is superior to football, football fans are a special breed that mostly resides in America argue that football is the better sport because of patriotism and the excitement factor of the two sports.

Soccer has an extremely large fan base due to the fact that soccer is the most popular sport in most countries around the world. Some argue that the reason people of other countries do not like football is because of the large amount of violence. To some Americans, violence is part of the game that makes the game much more thrilling and exciting to watch. Brian Clarke claims that the gap between the fans does not have as much to do with the sports themselves, but the subcultures that they create. “ It’s a cultural divide that (much like politicians) breeds insufferable attitudes on both sides” (Clarke, Culture Wars). Just as in politics, different sides will argue as to what is right and wrong. Sometimes, soccer fans even take offense when soccer is not referred to as futbol. The culture of an individual affects how they see their surroundings. There are multiple reasons as to why a football or soccer fan could argue why one of the sports is superior to the other, and why other arguments are instigated,.
