Car manufacturers and tech companies are like google, uber and tesla are already developing the technology. Google has already developed a couple prototypes of self driving cars while Tesla has already developed one which requires a driver to be behind the wheel but they do not have to taken control of the steering wheel. Many of these cars are still out of the price range of most of society today. 1.3 people globally die every year in automobile accidents. Human errors are up to 94% of those deaths Could self driving cars lower the numbers? Although they seem very far out we could see almost triple the amount of them in the next 10 years. You can buy the new prius for 24,000 dollars or upgrade it with Velodyne Lidar system for about 75,000 to 80,000 dollars. In reality you can buy that Prius and pay 10,000 dollars and get the same equipment for the vehicle. So the question we are left asking is, are self driving cars worth the money? (Chuck Tannert). Self driving cars are so hyped because people have been dreaming about them since around the 1930’s and finally people believed that they could be made. Last year a self driving car drove across the country in 15 different states. It traveled 3,400 miles in 9 days and even though there was a driver behind the wheel the car drove 99% of the trip. The government is rapidly pushing for self driving cars. This year they dropped 4 billion dollars on self driving cars. Teslas are slowly being able to be insured for less and less money.
