Discipline Rules

In physical education, there is a lot of physical contact. With that said, I need to make sure that I provide a safe learning environment for all of my students. Unfortunately, when one misbehaves and/or hurts someone else, they must be “disciplined” so that they will learn that their actions are not acceptable. When I first started my job, I was clueless on how to discipline a child in my classroom. I was also working at a new school and I did not know their procedures on discipline. In five years, I have written up less than ten students in which case, these incidents were either beyond my control as in someone else getting seriously hurt, or they were really serious and needed to be addressed by the principal.

First, if they lie to me, they automatically have to walk (or another discipline that I see fit). I do not tolerate lying and I really hope that by enforcing this rule, students will learn to tell the truth more often. Another exception to my rule is if one hits someone on purpose. I do not know what it is about some children today, but it seems as if they feel that hitting is appropriate behavior, but it is not acceptable in my class. I do understand that accidents happen, even more so in my class because of the type of class that it is. So, in these cases, I will “investigate” more into the situation by asking other students that saw what happened. I usually end up finding out everything that had taken place and then I will decide if the student needs to be disciplined. In the worst case scenario, we have a video camera on the wall that the principal can look at if need be (yes, he has used it a few …show more content…
I will ask them if they know why they have to walk/write a letter, etc. I also ask them what they should do the next time something like this occurs. I find that students know what they should do, but they do not use their better judgment. I think that by going over this with them, they will try better if they are in the given situation again. I believe that if I just discipline them without having this conversation, then they will not learn what they did wrong and they will just repeat what

As a child who went through the first 11 years of my life in schools that practiced the “norm” of corporal punishment; lashing with a cane, ruler, or belt, I can safely say that there was certainly no one there to stop the teacher if he or she ever went out of hand, and you almost had to draw your luck if whatever you were doing was deemed disrespectful or rude, that the teacher was in a good mood. I profoundly remember my kindergarten mathematics teacher, Mrs. Ama, a very strict lady who didn’t tolerate anything, being late, not having homework, or not responding, she even punished kids for something as mundane as not having their shoe-laces tucked into the sides. One day, I recall that she was giving a talk about fractions, she asked me a…

Keeping this in mind, I must automatically cross out the first possible resolution on my list which indicates ignoring the harsh discipline the parents use altogether. A teacher simply cannot ignore a possible child endangerment. The Code of Ethics clearly points out that above all, “we shall not harm children”. Nor shall we participate in practices that are emotionally damaging, physical harmful, disrespectful, degrading, dangerous, exploitative, or intimidating to children.” Meaning that ignoring a possible endangerment would coincide with this principle because to ignore it would be emotionally damaging, disrespectful, and dangerous if the child was getting hurt or even abused.…

Positive and negative consequences will vary behavior but creating an intervention plan with bad students will help them understand and slowly monitor progress. During my field experience I have noticed that my cooperative teacher has taken away fun activities/ labs in class because of the way that students were behaving and this has shown a positive impact on their behavior in future classes because the teacher follows thru with what she says she will do if they do not behave. The ultimate goal of my classroom management is not to manage control of the class but to ensure that everyone meets my expectations in order for them to learn in an effective and supportive environment but to teach students self-discipline and to understand the rules and consequences of my classroom by acting accordingly.…
