Persuasive Essay On Salmon Farm

Good morning fellow council members, My name Sidpasamde Tiendrebeogo, I am the mayor of Paradise Island. As mayor, I take complaints about unemployment being on the rise, population increasing, and that the environment is becoming less pristine. As you may already know, their is a deep sea salmon farm proposal which will be at 0.5 km from the nearest land mass. This proposal shouldn’t be approved because the risks outweigh to benefits of having a salmon farm. The nutritional values of the salmon won’t be the same as the wild salmon. In a time article, it was proven that the omega 3 contained in fish from fish farms are lower them the ones in the wild(http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,2081796,00.html). People are making switch from meat to fish because of the nutritional values and this means that there won’t be enough nutrients in the fish and will end defy all the reasons why people switch to fish. Creating a fish farm come with a lot of consequences and risks on the environment. There will be a significant amount of fish grown in the area. This as it cites in the same time article may lead to dead zones. Dead zones are caused by the waste produced by the fishes. This waste can run off …show more content…
First, it may lead to Cultural eutrophication which occurs when excessive nutrients are added into lakes, rivers, and Oceans.This encourages the growth of algae which will cover the surface or water and there won’t be many sunlight and oxygen in the oceans because the algae will be using all of it. This will end up causing a decrease in biodiversity of Paradise Island. This will also disrupt the food because with an algae bloom, their won’t be enough oxygen to sustain many of the marine life, and reduce predators which will increase preys but because of lack of oxygen all the water would be polluted causing all life to migrate or die
