Matthew Thompson, Student Body President, is enthusiastic about this year’s Riley Week. “Riley Week is such a successful series of events because it brings not only the schools together, but also the community in order to help so many children at Riley many of which come from within our own corporation. Our fundraisers, T-Shirt sales, change buckets, and school spirit all come together to make the week possible. It's really the hearts of the people behind all of it that makes it possible and so impactful.” All of the student efforts during Riley Week lead up to the “Riley Red-Out” at the Brownsburg High School varsity football game September 4th at 7pm. Thousands of spectators will be wearing red instead of the customary purple to support

My advice to makayla is to never get stuck on one question no longer than five minutes. It's okay to skip a question and come back to it later once you have answer all of the other questions. It's also okay to guess intelligently on some of the questions. I feel that you shouldn't always linger on the same questions, because that can cause you to loose most of you time on the test. John When writing I think John should just write everything out first step-by-step.…

Australia day commemorates the anniversary of the arrival of the first fleet on the 26th of January 1788. To some, it means the beginning of the dispossession of aborigines and the lost of their culture, but to others that was the birth of a great nation. This time of the year sparks many debates on whether Australia day should be celebrated or not. Chris Berg contends that the emergence of Australia as a great and powerful nation cannot be pinpointed to a certain date, nor is the 26th of January necessarily a date to rightfully celebrate on in his article ‘there is much to celebrate on Australia day’, in which he adopts an evaluative tone. Alternatively, in her article ‘changing the date won’t fix Australia day’, Celeste Liddle argues rationally…

Throughout the book it is also explained that the people are under tight surveillance and the government also restricts what can or cannot be said or released to the public. Why would the public want to follow such a monarchy type of government? Are they scared to speak up against the government?…

The writing expected from college courses is one that most are unfamiliar with. Although students learn basic English skills throughout grade school and up to high school, most of the advanced steps are forgotten by the time the student is to enter college. Paired with this, are the nontraditional students, who haven’t studied advanced academic language for long periods of time. Professors are expecting students of all kinds of study to have a high academic vocabulary and high writing skill. Often times a gap in remedial writing courses within the first semester or so.…

I’ve attended this sporting event all 4 years at DHS and have loved to watch this event even before I was in highschool. This year students decided to take it up a notch. As a Senior, this year’s Turkey Bowl seemed especially critical. A chance for us to cement our legacy and finally go out on top. As I was about to walk into the game that early November morning, I saw students congregating right outside the door forming what looked to be a tailgate.…

Despite the new outburst of year-round schooling across the nation, I have the firm belief that we should retain the traditional system. Most schools who have switched to the year round calendar switched back to the traditional one because the anticipated instructional advantages haven’t materialized. In some cases, it even results in a drop of one to two percentile points in national rank for reading, math, and language scores, compared to a traditional calendar. It is not a good idea to keep making this change.…

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for all of the wonderful people in one’s life. Thanksgiving shouldn’t be ephemeral because it’s a long celebration with loved ones surrounding you. Before every meal, my grandfather prays no malice upon us for the rest of our lives. For that moment in time, it feels as if God is rinsing the evil away because of my grandpa’s prayer. The feast isn’t opulence but that doesn’t matter because we don’t need luxurious things.…

Good Moring Mrs Davies and class, Celebrating our national day on the date of British settlement in 1788 has never been a date that brings all Australians together, no matter how many flags we wave or happy barbecues we may enjoy. For many Indigenous Australians, the date is no holiday but a reminder of their country being taken over by others. It completely disrupted a way of life that had been undisturbed for 50,000 years. The date of Australia Day is a disrespectful celebration towards aboriginal Australians.…

According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation 680,000 jobs have been created by the practice of hunting in the United States. That is a miniscule number compared to the $796 million that hunters directly contribute to conservation programs each year in the United States (National Shooting Sports Foundation). Hunting has always been an essential part of American life, a past time that transcends ethnicity, age, religion and gender. Passed from generation to generation, the practice of hunting originally served to keep us alive as our ancestors sought to survive extreme conditions by hunting animals and then consuming the remains, growing stronger in the process, in this sense you can say that hunting has been embedded into our DNA and…

Do you think students should have their full week off for Thanksgiving? Well I know I do and my plan is in this essay is to show you why we should have our full weekend for Thanksgiving. My first reason is we shouldn't because if you take Monday and Tuesday you mess up family's that have planned to go somewhere they can't and they have to cancel and the bad part is those family's might not get their money back. And my lead to this is one day in fourth grade we had 30 students and like fifteen checked out on a day that was a Student/Staff holiday because we used our last snow day.…
